Ziraat Bankasi recovered from a second-set stumble to defeat Gaziantep Genclik 3-1 in the Efeler Ligi on 28 October 2026, delivering a performance that grew in authority as the match progressed. After taking the opening set and then losing a tight second, the home side reasserted control with stronger serving and a more consistent block, closing out the contest in four sets.

Match overview

Ziraat Bankasi began well and took the first set 25-19, using early service pressure to keep Gaziantep Genclik away from comfortable attacking positions. The visitors responded impressively, edging the second set 25-22 to level the match and briefly shift the momentum. Ziraat Bankasi, however, restored order with a 25-20 win in the third and completed the victory with a 25-17 fourth set.

The match showcased Ziraat Bankasi’s depth and ability to adapt. After Gaziantep’s second-set surge, the home side tightened their reception, varied their attacking routes and made fewer unforced errors. The fourth set was their most complete, as they controlled the serve-receive battle and gave Gaziantep little opportunity to build any late resistance.

Key moments

• Opening control: Ziraat Bankasi’s 25-19 first-set win set the tone, with their serve preventing Gaziantep from settling into a rhythm.
• Gaziantep’s response: The visitors took the second 25-22, capitalising on a dip in Ziraat’s sideout efficiency and finding success through their outside attack.
• Third-set reset: Ziraat Bankasi regained the initiative with a 25-20 third set, re-establishing their block and reducing the number of free points conceded.
• Fourth-set closure: The hosts dominated the fourth 25-17, finishing the match with their strongest all-round set and denying Gaziantep any route back into the contest.

Tactical story

Ziraat Bankasi’s serving became more effective as the match developed. By mixing short serves with deeper targets, they disrupted Gaziantep’s reception patterns and forced the visitors into more predictable attacks. That, in turn, allowed Ziraat’s block to form a stronger wall in the middle and helped the back-row defence read the play.

Gaziantep Genclik’s best period came in the second set, when their outside hitters found angles and their serve caused problems for Ziraat’s reception. But sustaining that pressure proved difficult. Once Ziraat Bankasi improved their first-contact quality, the home setter was able to involve the middle attack more frequently, opening up one-on-one situations on the wings and keeping Gaziantep’s block moving.

Standout performers

Ziraat Bankasi’s setter orchestrated the attack well, particularly in the third and fourth sets, when the distribution became more varied. The middle blockers provided an important scoring threat and defensive presence at the net, while the opposite hitter delivered key points whenever Gaziantep threatened to build a run.

Gaziantep Genclik’s opposite hitter was their most consistent attacking outlet, especially during the second-set comeback. Their libero also produced several good defensive plays, but Gaziantep’s serving and blocking could not maintain the required level across four sets against a team of Ziraat’s quality.

Season impact

The 3-1 win gives Ziraat Bankasi three valuable points and reinforces their standing in the Efeler Ligi table. It was also a useful demonstration of the team’s ability to respond after losing a set — a trait that matters in a long league season. Gaziantep Genclik leave with positives from their second-set performance, but they will need greater consistency in serve-receive and defence to compete for points against the league’s stronger sides.
