Gebze claimed a convincing 3-0 road victory over Sultanbeyli in Efeler Ligi on 27 October 2026, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-20. The visitors were sharper in the key phases of each set, using strong serving and a well-organised block to keep Sultanbeyli under pressure. The sweep gives Gebze an important result in the competitive Marmara rivalry and leaves Sultanbeyli searching for more consistency.

Match overview

The first set was the tightest of the night. Sultanbeyli stayed with Gebze through the early and middle phases, with both teams trading blows from the pins. Gebze’s ability to find a little extra in transition proved the difference. A late serving run and a block at a crucial moment helped the visitors take the opener 25-22.

Gebze carried that momentum into the second set. The visitors established an early lead and never allowed Sultanbeyli to build a sustained response. Their block began to dominate the middle of the net, and their defence converted several difficult rallies into counter-attacking points. Gebze closed the set comfortably at 25-18.

Sultanbeyli tried to force a fourth set in the third, but Gebze remained in control. The home side had brief runs, yet the visitors answered each one with a composed sideout or a timely block. Gebze finished the match at 25-20 to complete a professional straight-set win.

Key moments

• First set, 22-22: Gebze won three straight points, including a block and a transition kill, to steal the opener.
• Second set, early lead: Gebze’s serving pressure created separation and forced Sultanbeyli into predictable attacks.
• Third set, 19-18: The visitors’ late surge, built on defence and disciplined attacking, ended Sultanbeyli’s resistance.

Tactical story

Gebze’s success started with the serve. The visitors mixed power with placement and repeatedly disrupted Sultanbeyli’s first contact. That made it difficult for the home side to involve its middle attackers and allowed Gebze’s block to focus on the pins. The visitors also defended the floor well, extending rallies and forcing Sultanbeyli to take extra swings.

Sultanbeyli’s best periods came when it managed to play through the middle and keep Gebze’s block moving. But the home side’s error count rose whenever the rallies lengthened. Gebze, by contrast, looked calm and well-drilled, with a clear understanding of when to attack aggressively and when to play the percentages.

Standout performers

Gebze’s opposite hitter delivered important points in the first and third sets, while the middle blockers controlled the net with influential blocking spells. The visiting libero also had a strong match, keeping several difficult balls alive. Sultanbeyli’s captain tried to lead by example with a few powerful swings, but the home side lacked the same balance across the court.

Season impact

The win is a significant confidence booster for Gebze and adds valuable road points in Efeler Ligi. It also reinforces the team’s credentials as a side capable of competing with the league’s established names. Sultanbeyli, meanwhile, will focus on reception stability and late-set execution after a result that slipped away in each set’s decisive phase.
