How the match unfolded

Ankaran made the stronger start, using the home crowd and a confident attacking approach to edge a tight first set. Their block produced a few important stops late in the opener, and SIP Sempeter were left searching for answers after some untidy first-contact play.

The response from SIP Sempeter was immediate. They raised their serving intensity in the second set, forced Ankaran into longer attacks and began to win the battle at the net. A decisive run in the middle of the set opened a cushion, and the visitors closed it out to level the match.

From there, SIP Sempeter looked the more settled side. They controlled the third set from early on, moved the ball intelligently around the court and kept Ankaran’s block guessing. The fourth set was tighter, but SIP Sempeter found another gear late on, breaking away in the closing rallies to seal the 3-1 win.

Tactical story

The match turned on SIP Sempeter’s serve-and-block combination. After a shaky opening set, they served with greater purpose, reducing Ankaran’s options in system and forcing more predictable swings. Their middle blockers read the game well and produced several crucial touches that turned defence into attack.

Ankaran’s attacking variety caused problems early, but as the match wore on their passing became less consistent and their hitters were left with too many difficult balls. SIP Sempeter’s setter also did a good job of spreading the offence, ensuring the visitors were not overly reliant on one scoring source.

Standout performers

SIP Sempeter’s middle blockers were central to the comeback, combining well at the net and giving the team a steady stream of transition points. Their opposite hitter delivered several important kills in the second and third sets, while the libero helped stabilise reception after a difficult opening.

Ankaran’s outside hitters showed flashes of quality, particularly in the first set, but the team’s error count rose as the match progressed. Their best spell came early in the fourth set, when a short serving run briefly threatened to force a decider.

Season impact

The 3-1 result gives SIP Sempeter a valuable road win and strengthens their position in the 1. DOL Women table. Ankaran Women, by contrast, will view this as a missed opportunity after a promising start. Their next fixture becomes an important chance to reset and improve their consistency across four sets.
