Leixões SC Women came through a five-set battle at home against Braga Women, winning 3-2 in the Portuguese 1. Divisao Women on 11 October 2026. The hosts took the deciding tie-break 15-12 after the match had swung back and forth across nearly two hours of high-quality volleyball.

Match Overview

Leixões started as the more settled side and looked briefly in control, but Braga's resilience turned the contest into a genuine arm-wrestle. The visitors took two of the middle sets — including a marathon third set that could have gone either way — before the home team steadied themselves and finished the match with their best volleyball of the night. It was a result built on depth, discipline, and a refusal to let a promising evening slip away.

Set-by-Set

• Set 1 – Leixões 25-20: A composed opening from the hosts, who served aggressively and kept Braga out of system.
• Set 2 – Braga 25-23: Braga improved their block defence and levelled with a strong finish.
• Set 3 – Braga 27-25: The set of the night. Leixões saved set points but Braga eventually converted their fourth opportunity to take a 2-1 lead.
• Set 4 – Leixões 25-22: The home side responded like a team that expected to win, forcing the tie-break with a controlled performance.
• Set 5 – Leixões 15-12: Leixões jumped ahead early and managed the closing rallies maturely to seal the match.

How the Match Was Won

After losing a 27-25 heartbreaker, many teams fold. Leixões did the opposite. Their reception stabilised, their setter began using the middle far more often, and their serve pressure returned in the fourth and fifth sets. Braga, who had been excellent in transition, found fewer clean hitting opportunities as the match wore on and were ultimately undone by a handful of errors in the tie-break. The contrast between the two teams in the final twenty minutes was the story of the night.

Standout Performers

Leixões' outside hitters were the engine of the win, combining for the majority of the team's attacking points and repeatedly scoring out of difficult situations. The middle blockers grew into the match, delivering crucial blocks in the fourth and fifth sets, while the libero produced the defensive highlight of the evening with a scrambling dig that turned into a transition point at 11-10 in the tie-break. For Braga, the opposite hitter was outstanding throughout, and their setter's creativity kept the visitors competitive right to the end.

Season Impact

Taking two points from a five-set win keeps Leixões moving in the right direction in the 1. Divisao Women standings and reinforces their home-court advantage. For Braga, the performance — if not the result — suggests they will be a difficult opponent for anyone this season, particularly if they can convert leads in decisive sets more consistently. In a division where the margins between playoff contenders are thin, matches like this one are exactly the kind that decide final positions in April.
