The Czech Cup Women meeting between Nusle Women and Havlickuv Brod Women was halted early and recorded as a 0-0 fixture, with the tie abandoned during the opening set before either side could take control of the scoreboard. The match will now need to be rearranged, leaving both clubs with an unexpected gap in their cup plans.

Czech Cup Women: Nusle Women 0-0 Havlickuv Brod Women — match at a glance

• Competition: Czech Cup Women (Český pohár žen)
• Venue: Prague, Czech Republic
• Recorded result: Nusle Women 0–0 Havlickuv Brod Women
• Status: Tie abandoned in the opening set; no set completed

What happened

The tie began in front of a healthy home crowd and produced a promising opening spell, with both sides trading points and neither able to open a meaningful gap. Nusle Women looked lively from the service line, while Havlickuv Brod Women settled quickly and showed the composure of a side used to playing bigger matches.

Play was then interrupted, and after the stoppage it became apparent the fixture could not be completed. With the first set unfinished, the match was closed as a 0-0 record — no sets won by either side, and no winner declared. It is one of the rarer entries a cup scoreboard can produce, and it guarantees the two clubs will meet again.

Nusle Women: the hosts

Nusle Women approached this tie as the home side with nothing to lose. Cup volleyball gives clubs from outside the top tier a rare chance to measure themselves against established opposition, and Nusle's early play suggested they intended to make the most of it — aggressive serving, a busy defensive block and a willingness to take risks in transition. For a squad built on local talent and a strong team spirit, a home cup night against a recognised name is a genuine occasion, and the players will be eager for the rearranged date.

Havlickuv Brod Women: the visitors

Havlickuv Brod Women are among the more established names in Czech women's volleyball and travelled to the capital with a clear expectation of progress in the competition. Their early exchanges showed the hallmarks of a well-coached side: clean reception patterns, an organised block and a setter comfortable running the middle. Their challenge now is to reset mentally for a fixture they will effectively have to prepare for twice, and to ensure a disrupted cup night does not disturb the rhythm of their league campaign.

What happens next

A tie that stops before a set is complete cannot be decided by the scoreboard, so the expectation is a replay at a rearranged date, with the hosts retaining their home advantage unless the clubs agree otherwise. For the competition, it means one more match squeezed into an already tight midweek calendar, and one more reminder of how thin the margins are at the grassroots end of the Czech Cup Women.

For both sets of supporters, the upside is simple: a cup night that was cut short will come around again, and this time both teams will be determined to make sure it lasts five sets.
