Nusle Women survived a five-set thriller in the Czech Cup Women's competition, defeating Hradec Kralove Women 3-2 on Saturday evening after surrendering the opening set and then losing a fourth-set opportunity to close the match. In a tie that swung repeatedly, it was the visitors who found the composure to finish the job in the deciding set.

Match Overview

The match began at 19:00 on 19 September 2026 and quickly established itself as one of the most competitive ties of the cup round. Hradec Kralove Women started brightly in front of their home supporters, but Nusle Women responded with two strong sets to take control. When Hradec Kralove forced a fifth set, the momentum appeared to have shifted — yet Nusle delivered their most disciplined volleyball of the night when it mattered most.

Set-by-Set Breakdown

• Set 1: Hradec Kralove Women 25-22 — a strong home start built on solid blocking.
• Set 2: Nusle Women 26-24 — a marathon set decided by two late errors.
• Set 3: Nusle Women 25-19 — the visitors' cleanest set of the match.
• Set 4: Hradec Kralove Women 25-23 — the hosts refused to go quietly.
• Set 5: Nusle Women 15-11 — a controlled, clinical finish.

Key Moments

The second set was the hinge on which the entire match turned. Hradec Kralove led 22-20 and looked set to take a commanding two-set advantage, but Nusle saved two set points with a combination of brave serving and a spectacular defensive scramble. When the set finally fell their way at 26-24, the visitors visibly grew in confidence.

Hradec Kralove's response in the fourth set was admirable. Facing elimination, they raised their block and slowed Nusle's outside attack, forcing the tie into a decider. But the fifth set belonged to the visitors, who jumped to an early 6-2 lead and never allowed the gap to shrink below three points.

Tactical Story

Both teams leaned heavily on their outside hitters, and the difference ultimately came down to efficiency in transition. Nusle Women passed more consistently across the five sets, which gave their setter the freedom to involve the middle blocker and keep Hradec Kralove's block guessing. That variety was especially evident in the third and fifth sets.

Hradec Kralove Women, meanwhile, were at their best when their serve was landing. Their best passages came in the first and fourth sets, when aggressive serving disrupted Nusle's reception and allowed the home block to set up double blocks on the wings. When that serve pressure dropped, so did their control of the rallies.

Standout Performers

Nusle's captain and outside hitter carried the attacking load throughout, delivering key kills at the end of both the second and fifth sets. Their libero was outstanding in the backcourt, repeatedly extending rallies that Hradec Kralove had seemingly already won.

For Hradec Kralove, the middle blocker was the team's most reliable performer, contributing blocks and quick attacks. Their setter also impressed with her distribution under pressure in the fourth set, keeping the hosts alive when the match appeared to be slipping away.

What It Means

The victory keeps Nusle Women's cup campaign alive and hands them a valuable psychological boost, having won a five-set match on the road against a strong opponent. Five-set wins in knockout competition are often the making of a team's season.

Hradec Kralove Women exit the competition with plenty of positives despite the disappointment. Pushing a tie to a deciding set and winning two sets against a quality opponent shows real progress, and the experience of a high-pressure fifth set will serve the squad well in league play.
