The Czech Cup delivered a busy slate of volleyball action on 19 September 2026, with four matches producing a mix of dominant sweeps and a hard-fought four-set battle. Velke Mezirici and Havlickuv Brod opened the day's headline tie in the men's bracket, while the women's competition saw Jihlava, Ostrava B and Nusle all advance with convincing straight-set victories.

Velke Mezirici 3-1 Havlickuv Brod: Home Side Grinds Out Four-Set Win

Velke Mezirici booked their place in the next round of the Czech Cup with a resilient 3-1 victory over Havlickuv Brod at home. The hosts dropped the opening exchanges but steadily took control of the match, winning the key rallies at the net and converting their attacking efficiency into a decisive scoreline.

The contest was the only four-set match of the day's programme, and it reflected the competitive gap between two sides still finding their rhythm early in the cup campaign. Havlickuv Brod competed well in patches, particularly with their serving pressure, but Velke Mezirici's block defence and transition play proved the difference over the long haul.

Jihlava Women Cruise Past Slapanice in Straight Sets

Jihlava Women produced one of the most complete performances of the round, sweeping Slapanice Women 3-0 to move into the next stage of the Czech Cup Women. The hosts controlled the tempo from the first whistle, building early leads in each set and never allowing their opponents to settle into a consistent attacking rhythm.

Jihlava's serving game was a key weapon throughout, forcing Slapanice into difficult first-ball situations and limiting their options in transition. With a clean scoreline and minimal time spent on court, Jihlava will head into the next round with confidence and fresher legs than some of their rivals.

Ostrava B Women Overpower Opava W on the Road

Ostrava B Women made the short trip to Opava and returned with a commanding 3-1 win over Opava W. After a tight opening phase, the visitors found another gear, tightening their reception and dominating the net to take control of the tie.

The result underlines the depth within the Ostrava setup, with the B team showing they can compete strongly in cup competition. Opava W will look back at the opening set as a missed opportunity, having stayed within touching distance before Ostrava's block and serve pressure told.

Nusle Women Sweep Rudolfov on the Road

Nusle Women were flawless away from home, defeating Rudolfov Women 3-0 in a match that was decided by their consistency in side-out volleyball. Nusle kept errors to a minimum and punished Rudolfov's attacking inconsistencies with quick counter-attacks and efficient finishing at the net.

Rudolfov struggled to generate momentum after falling behind early in the first set, and Nusle never let the door open. It was a professional, controlled display that sends a clear signal about Nusle's ambitions in this season's cup run.

What the Results Mean for the Czech Cup

Three of the day's four ties ended in straight sets, with only the Velke Mezirici and Havlickuv Brod clash going the distance across four sets. The results set up an intriguing next round, with Jihlava, Ostrava B and Nusle all advancing with clean scorelines and Velke Mezirici progressing after a more testing encounter.

For the teams that fell short — Slapanice, Opava W and Rudolfov — the cup exit offers a chance to refocus on league commitments, while Havlickuv Brod will take encouragement from pushing Velke Mezirici to four sets on the road.

Key Takeaways from the Round

• Home advantage held firm: Velke Mezirici and Jihlava both won in front of their own supporters.
• Away success: Ostrava B Women and Nusle Women both recorded road victories to advance.
• Defensive dominance: Three of the four matches ended in 3-0 scorelines, highlighting the importance of blocking and serving in cup volleyball.
• Only one four-setter: The Velke Mezirici–Havlickuv Brod tie was the day's longest contest.

Looking Ahead

The Czech Cup's early rounds continue to deliver a blend of development-team opportunities and first-team ambitions. With Jihlava, Ostrava B and Nusle all moving on without dropping a set, and Velke Mezirici showing resilience in a four-set battle, the next round promises more competitive volleyball across both the men's and women's brackets.
