Voleibol Teruel booked their place in the 2020 Copa del Rey final with a commanding 3-0 sweep against Grau on February 9, 2020. The result was a statement of purpose from Teruel, who needed only three sets to dismantle a Grau side that had shown great resilience in the quarterfinals just a day earlier.

Match Overview

With a spot in the showpiece match on the line, Teruel played with remarkable clarity. Their serve-and-block rhythm frustrated Grau from the outset, as the underdogs struggled to find holes in a defense that simply refused to break. Grau worked hard to extend rallies but were repeatedly forced into difficult attacking positions.

The scoreline may have looked comfortable, but the match retained genuine tension. Grau fought for every point, and their fans had plenty to cheer about, but Teruel always seemed to hold a decisive edge in the biggest moments of each set.

Key to the Sweep

• Blocking dominance: Teruel’s middle blockers neutralised Grau’s strongest hitting lines, turning defense into immediate offense.
• Service pressure: A relentless float serve forced Grau to play from deep in both transitions and side-out situations.
• Efficient outside hitting: Teruel’s wing spikers converted crisp sets with a high success rate, avoiding long scoring rallies.

Setting Up a Final Showdown

The sweep allowed Teruel precious rest ahead of the final, but even more importantly, it sent a message to the rest of the tournament. By dispatching a dangerous Grau side without dropping a set, the team made clear that they intended to leave the competition with the trophy.

Grau, meanwhile, could leave the 2020 Copa del Rey with their heads held high. Their quarterfinal heroics and battles in this semifinal showed that the club belongs among Spain’s best, and the experience will be invaluable for the future. For Teruel, the attention turned immediately to the final against Almería, a fixture that promised to be the ultimate test.
