Key moments

The first set was tight until Prostějov created a small cushion with a three-point serving run in the closing stages. GEN-I Volley answered immediately in the second, improving its reception and finding more success through the middle. The third set was Prostějov’s most complete stretch of the match, as the home side built an early lead and never allowed GEN-I to close the gap. The fourth set saw GEN-I Volley raise its blocking intensity and extend rallies, forcing errors from the Czech side and setting up the decider. In the fifth, Prostějov moved ahead 8-6 at the changeover and held its nerve, sealing the win with a strong block and a well-placed serve that GEN-I could not return.

Tactical story

Both teams relied heavily on their serving games, and the match turned into a battle of first-contact quality. Prostějov’s best stretches came when it kept GEN-I Volley out of system with aggressive serves to the wings, allowing the home block to set up early. GEN-I’s comeback in the fourth set was built on better passing and a more varied attack, with its outside hitters finding seams in the Prostějov block. The tie-break ultimately came down to execution under pressure: Prostějov limited unforced errors and made the right decisions in transition, while GEN-I’s final attempts to force a comeback fell short.

Standout performers and season impact

Prostějov’s opposite hitter carried a heavy scoring load, particularly in the first and third sets, while the libero delivered several crucial defensive plays in the tie-break. The setter also deserves credit for keeping the attack balanced when GEN-I Volley began reading the home side’s patterns. For GEN-I Volley, the outside hitters and middle blocker produced important points during the comeback, but the team could not maintain that level in the final set. The 3-2 result gives Prostějov two points and GEN-I Volley one, keeping the tie finely balanced and ensuring the return leg remains very much alive.
