Match overview

Maritsa Plovdiv started strongly, applying pressure from the service line and forcing Herceg Novi into difficult first contacts. The visitors built an early lead and kept the hosts at arm’s length throughout the first set, taking it 25-19.

The second set was the most competitive. Herceg Novi improved their attack and stayed close for much of the set, but Maritsa Plovdiv’s experience showed at the end. Key moments

• First set, 14-10: Maritsa Plovdiv created the first significant gap with a service ace and a block, forcing Herceg Novi to chase the set.
• Second set, 19-19: The visitors won four of the next five rallies, with their opposite hitter delivering two important kills.
• Third set, 9-4: An early surge, including two blocks, broke Herceg Novi’s resistance and set up a comfortable finish.

Tactical story

Maritsa Plovdiv’s serving was the key to the match. They targeted Herceg Novi’s reception line effectively, limiting the hosts’ ability to run their middle attack. With Herceg Novi forced into more predictable high-ball situations, Maritsa Plovdiv’s block could set up early and their defence could read the play.

The visitors also managed the game well. They did not force unnecessary risks in the tight second set, instead relying on disciplined attacking and patient rally construction. Herceg Novi’s best spells came when their block connected and their outside hitters found space, but those moments were too brief. Maritsa Plovdiv’s transition game was sharper, and their error count was significantly lower.

Standout performers

Maritsa Plovdiv’s opposite hitter was the standout performer, scoring consistently and making the difference in the second set. Their middle blocker controlled the net with important blocks and quick attacks, while the libero was excellent in defence, extending rallies and giving the team extra attacking chances.

For Herceg Novi, the captain and outside hitter worked hard to keep the team in the match, especially in the second set. The setter also tried to vary the attack, but the hosts lacked the serving and reception consistency needed to put sustained pressure on Maritsa Plovdiv.

The 3-0 away win is a significant result for Maritsa Plovdiv Women in the CEV Champions League Women. It gives them valuable momentum and a strong set record, while the manner of the victory will boost confidence in their serving and block-defence systems.
