VC Wiesbaden Women produced the decisive late push in a tense five-set battle against Vilsbiburg Women, winning 3-2 in the 1. Bundesliga Women on 25 October 2026. The visitors took the match 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13, turning a tight final set in their favour after Vilsbiburg had fought back to force a decider.

Match overview

Vilsbiburg started with the kind of home-court energy expected from a Bundesliga side protecting its own floor. The hosts edged a close opening set 25-22, using strong serving and a compact block to keep Wiesbaden’s attack from settling. Wiesbaden responded immediately, tightening their reception and finding more rhythm from the wings to take the second set 25-23 and level the match.

The third set followed a similar pattern, with Vilsbiburg again finding a way through in the key moments to win 25-21. But Wiesbaden’s response in the fourth set was the turning point of the night. The visitors raised their serving pressure, forced Vilsbiburg into predictable attacking choices and took the set 25-20 to send the match into a fifth-set showdown.

Key moments

The decider was everything a Bundesliga crowd could ask for: sideout volleyball, long rallies and neither team willing to give away the first two-point cushion. Vilsbiburg stayed within touching distance throughout, but Wiesbaden’s block-and-defence combination held firm at 13-13. A well-placed serve pulled Wiesbaden ahead, and a transition kill sealed the 15-13 win.

The most important phase arguably came earlier, midway through the fourth set. With Vilsbiburg threatening to build a decisive lead, Wiesbaden strung together a run of points from the service line and converted defensive scrambles into counter-attacks. That stretch changed the momentum and gave the visitors the belief they carried into the fifth.

Tactical story

Vilsbiburg’s best spells came when their block was set early and their outside hitters had room to swing against a scattered Wiesbaden defence. The hosts also used the middle effectively in the first and third sets, keeping Wiesbaden’s blockers honest and creating one-on-one opportunities on the pins.

Wiesbaden, however, made the better adjustments as the match wore on. Their service game became more aggressive without becoming reckless, and their libero covered the deep corners well during Vilsbiburg’s strongest attacking sequences. In the fifth set, Wiesbaden’s ability to sideout under pressure proved the difference: they did not panic at 13-13 and trusted their transition game to close it out.

Standout performers

Vilsbiburg’s outside hitter carried a heavy load and was central to their two set wins, mixing power with smart shots off the block. Their middle blocker also gave the hosts important stops in the first and third sets. For Wiesbaden, the opposite hitter delivered several critical points in the fourth and fifth sets, while the libero’s defensive reads kept rallies alive when the match seemed to be slipping away.

Table and season impact

The 3-2 road win gives Wiesbaden an important early-season boost in the 1. Bundesliga Women, where every point can matter in a crowded table. Taking a full two points from a difficult away fixture against Vilsbiburg is the kind of result that builds confidence and can shape the race for playoff positions. For Vilsbiburg, the loss is a frustrating one because they led twice and forced a decider, but the performance still showed plenty of attacking quality and home-court resilience.

Both teams will take lessons from a match that swung repeatedly. Wiesbaden leave with the result and the momentum; Vilsbiburg leave knowing that a few cleaner sideouts in the fifth set could have changed the outcome.
