SC Schweriner Women claimed a convincing 3-0 away win over Suhl Women in the 1. Bundesliga Women, taking the match 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 and maintaining their momentum in the early part of the season. Schweriner controlled long stretches of the contest with a strong block and a balanced attack, while Suhl struggled to find consistency after the first set.

Match overview

Suhl Women started with intent and kept the opening set close, but Schweriner’s blocking began to tell as the set progressed. The visitors took the first set and then dominated the second from the opening serve. Suhl improved in the third and nearly forced a fourth set, but Schweriner stayed calm in the closing rallies and completed the sweep.

Key moments

The first set turned at 16-15 in Suhl’s favor. Schweriner responded with a 6-1 run, mixing a strong serve with two blocks, and never surrendered the lead. In the second set, Schweriner raced to an 8-2 advantage and Suhl could not recover. The third set was the most competitive, with Suhl leading 22-21, but Schweriner won four of the final five points to close it out 25-23.

Tactical story

Schweriner’s block-defense system was the difference. They slowed Suhl’s outside attack and forced the hosts into more predictable shots, which allowed their libero and back-row defenders to keep rallies alive. Schweriner also served aggressively, reducing Suhl’s first-tempo opportunities. Suhl competed well at times but made too many errors in the middle of sets, allowing Schweriner to build runs.

Standout performers

Schweriner outside hitter Lena Hoffmann led the match with 18 points and was particularly effective in the third-set finish. Middle blocker Marie Schmidt added five blocks and controlled the net, while setter Clara Neumann distributed the attack well. Suhl’s Anna Weber top-scored for the hosts with 12 points, but the home side lacked the same offensive depth.

Season impact

The straight-sets victory is a strong statement for SC Schweriner Women in the 1. Bundesliga Women standings and gives them confidence for the next block of fixtures. Suhl Women will look to regroup at home and improve their sideout consistency, especially after letting a promising third set slip away.
