Eltmann delivered one of the most professional road performances of the weekend in the 2. Bundesliga South, defeating Momlingen 3-1 to take all three points from a hostile away venue. The visitors controlled the match from the middle of the second set onwards, combining disciplined serving with a physical net presence that the home side simply could not solve for long enough to build any sustained pressure.

Match Overview

The contest opened with Momlingen at their best. Driven by a loud home crowd, the hosts played fast, aggressive volleyball and edged a tight first set to take an early lead. It proved to be the high point of their evening. Eltmann steadied immediately, tightened their reception, and then gradually took the match over — winning the next three sets to complete a convincing 3-1 victory.

• Final result: Momlingen 1 – 3 Eltmann
• Competition: 2. Bundesliga South
• Match points: Eltmann take the full three-point haul for a four-set win
• Turning point: Midway through the second set, when Eltmann's serving broke the home reception

How the Match Unfolded

Momlingen's first set was built on energy and efficient side-out volleyball. Their outside hitters found the floor consistently, the setter kept the middle involved, and Eltmann's block was a step slow to react. The hosts took it, and the momentum appeared to be theirs.

But Eltmann's adjustment was immediate. Their serving became flatter and more targeted, pushing Momlingen's reception further off the net and forcing the home setter into predictable, high-ball options. With the attack neutralised, Eltmann's block-and-defence system started generating points in bunches. They took the second set comfortably and never looked back.

The third set was the most competitive of the night, with both teams trading long rallies and the score staying close into the twenties. Eltmann's composure in those final rallies — a combination of smart shot selection and relentless floor defence — proved decisive. The fourth set was more one-sided, as Momlingen's error count rose and the visitors closed the match with authority.

Standout Performances

• Eltmann's opposite hitter: The go-to option in every difficult rotation, delivering key points in the second and third sets.
• Eltmann's middle blockers: Their read blocking changed the shape of the match from the second set onwards.
• Momlingen's libero: Kept the hosts alive with several outstanding defensive plays, even as the match slipped away.
• Momlingen's captain: Led by example in the first set and kept the team competitive through the third.

Tactical Story

This was a textbook example of a road team winning through adaptation. Momlingen's initial game plan — quick tempo, heavy use of the middle and high-energy serving — worked in set one, but once Eltmann neutralised the reception, the hosts had no clear alternative route to score. Eltmann, by contrast, grew more varied as the match progressed, mixing power from the pins with tips, rolls and deliberate off-speed attacks that kept the Momlingen block guessing.

Eltmann also won the battle of the benches. Their rotations stayed fresh, and the coaching staff's tactical adjustments at the technical timeouts consistently preceded scoring runs.

What It Means for the Season

Three points on the road in the 2. Bundesliga South is worth its weight in gold, and Eltmann leave Momlingen with both their league position and their confidence boosted. For the hosts, the result is a reminder of how punishing this division can be: one strong set is not enough against a side as organised as Eltmann.

Both clubs will take lessons from the night. Momlingen must find a way to maintain their first-set intensity across an entire match, while Eltmann will look to build on a performance that showed both quality and tactical discipline.
