Koln Women claimed a convincing 3-0 road win over Waldgirmes Women in the 2. Bundesliga Pro Women on 17 October 2026, taking the match 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22. The visitors were controlled and efficient throughout, withstanding a stronger challenge in the third set to complete the sweep.

Match overview

Koln Women started brightly and took the first set 25-20, using a solid serving performance to keep Waldgirmes under pressure. The second set was even more one-sided, as Koln dominated the middle phase and pulled away to win 25-17. Waldgirmes responded with a better third set and pushed the visitors late, but Koln found the answers in the closing points to seal it 25-22 and take all three points.

The match followed a clear pattern: Koln were more consistent in serve receive, more aggressive from the service line and more patient in transition. Waldgirmes showed character to make the third set competitive, but they had left themselves too much to do after losing the first two sets.

Key moments

• First set: Koln edged ahead in the middle phase and closed strongly at 25-20 to take early control.
• Second set: The visitors produced their best spell of the match, breaking Waldgirmes’ reception and running away to a 25-17 win.
• Third set: Waldgirmes improved and kept the set close, but Koln stayed composed in the final rallies and won 25-22.
• Late-set execution: Koln’s ability to win the pressure points prevented Waldgirmes from forcing a fourth set.

Tactical story

Koln Women’s serving and blocking combination was too much for Waldgirmes to handle consistently. The visitors targeted the areas between receivers, forcing Waldgirmes into uncomfortable attacking positions. With the home side unable to run its preferred first-tempo game, Koln’s block could focus on the wings and close down the space.

Waldgirmes were at their most effective in the third set when they managed to slow the game down and win a few longer rallies. Their block also improved, giving the home crowd something to cheer. But Koln’s experience showed in the decisive moments. They did not panic when Waldgirmes threatened to extend the match, and their sideout game held firm under pressure.

Standout performers

Koln’s opposite hitter was a consistent scoring threat, especially in the second set when the visitors pulled away. The setter managed the offence well and kept the attack balanced, while the libero provided stability in reception and defence. For Waldgirmes, the outside hitters worked hard against a well-organised block, and the middle blockers produced the home side’s best defensive moments in the third set.

What the result means

The 3-0 victory gives Koln Women three important points in the 2. Bundesliga Pro Women table and reinforces their ability to win on the road. Waldgirmes Women will be disappointed with the first two sets but can take some encouragement from their third-set response. The challenge now is to reproduce that level from the opening serve rather than waiting until the match is already slipping away.
