Tactical story

The match changed when Valio Voru increased their serving aggression in the third set. Daugavpils had been able to run a varied offence in the second set, but the hosts’ float serves and targeted deep serves disrupted that rhythm. With Daugavpils’ setter forced to work from further off the net, Valio Voru’s blockers were able to read the attack and close the angles.

Valio Voru also benefited from a strong transition game. Their defence kept several difficult balls alive, and the counter-attacks were finished with composure. Daugavpils competed well in the first two sets but could not sustain their level once the hosts found their serving rhythm.

Standout performers

Valio Voru’s middle blockers were influential in the third and fourth sets, producing key stops that broke Daugavpils’ momentum. The outside hitters also delivered consistently, especially in the closing set. Daugavpils’ libero produced some fine defensive work, but the visitors lacked the attacking consistency to stay with the hosts over four sets.

Table impact

The 3-1 win gives Valio Voru three points in the Baltic League, while Daugavpils leave empty-handed. The result will boost the hosts’ confidence as they look to build momentum in the competition. For Daugavpils, the challenge will be to reproduce the level they showed in the second set for longer periods in future matches.
