A drab stalemate ensued at MWOS Stadium on Saturday as the hosts played out a goalless draw with Hunters in a Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League encounter that lacked quality in the final third. Neither side could find a breakthrough, leaving both sets of supporters frustrated.

Defences on top in cagey affair

MWOS entered the match hoping to build on a midweek victory, but they struggled to break down a compact Hunters defence that sat deep and invited pressure. The home side had the better of possession but created only half-chances: a header from Oscar Makoni that sailed wide and a long-range effort from Tanaka Musarurwa that was comfortably saved.

Hunters, for their part, were content to counter-attack but lacked the precision to trouble MWOS goalkeeper Tendai Sithole. Their best opportunity came in the 58th minute when a swift break ended with a shot that was blocked by a covering defender.

Second-half frustration mounts

The second half followed the same pattern. MWOS introduced fresh legs, but despite increased urgency, they could not carve out a clear-cut chance. Hunters defended resolutely, with central defender Farai Muparutsa making several crucial interceptions. The final whistle was met with a mixture of disappointment and resignation.

Standings outlook

MWOS remain in mid-table – 10th place – and will see this as two points dropped given their home advantage. Hunters climb one spot to 14th, now four points clear of the relegation zone. Both teams will need to improve their attacking output if they harbour any hopes of climbing higher in the second half of the season.
