Polisi SC Edge Fufuni in Hard-Fought 2-1 Victory

Polisi SC claimed a narrow but deserved 2-1 win over Fufuni in the Zanzibar Premier League on the evening of 29 September 2026, in a match that delivered tension, quality, and late drama at the Amaan Stadium. The home side controlled long spells of the contest, but Fufuni’s resilience kept the result in doubt until the final whistle, making this a valuable three points for the policemen in their campaign for a top-half finish.

Match Overview

From the opening exchanges, Polisi SC looked the more purposeful side. Their midfield pressed high, forcing Fufuni into hurried clearances, and the early pressure paid off when they took the lead inside the first twenty minutes. Fufuni responded with a more compact shape after the break, and their equaliser midway through the second half set up a nervy finale. But Polisi SC found a decisive moment late on, restoring their advantage and holding on through five minutes of stoppage time.

The win moves Polisi SC onto a healthier points total as the season enters its crucial phase, while Fufuni remain in a scrap for consistency. The match also highlighted the growing competitiveness of the Zanzibar Premier League, where home advantage and fine margins often decide outcomes.

Key Moments

• 12th minute – Polisi SC take the lead: A quick turnover in midfield released the right winger, whose low cross was converted at the near post with a sharp finish. The early goal settled the home side and forced Fufuni to chase the game.
• 38th minute – Fufuni’s best chance of the first half: A free-kick from just outside the box clipped the top of the crossbar, a warning sign that the visitors carried a threat on the counter.
• 67th minute – Fufuni equalise: After a period of sustained possession, a clever through ball split the Polisi defence and the striker rounded the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net. The away fans erupted, and suddenly the momentum shifted.
• 84th minute – Polisi SC grab the winner: A corner from the left was only half-cleared, and the Polisi captain lashed a first-time shot through a crowded penalty area and into the bottom corner. It was a goal worthy of winning any match.
• 90+3 minute – Late scare: Fufuni threw bodies forward and won a series of corners, but Polisi’s goalkeeper produced a commanding punch to relieve the pressure and secure the victory.

Tactical Story

Polisi SC lined up in a fluid 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-3-3 when attacking. Their full-backs pushed high, pinning Fufuni’s wide midfielders deep and allowing the central midfielders to dominate the second balls. The home side’s press was coordinated and aggressive, often forcing Fufuni into long passes that were easily mopped up by the centre-backs.

Fufuni, by contrast, started in a 4-4-2 but switched to a 5-3-2 after conceding, which helped them stabilise the game and eventually find the equaliser. Their manager made a double substitution on the hour mark, injecting pace into the wide areas and turning the contest into a more transitional battle. For a 15-minute spell, Fufuni looked the likelier winner. However, Polisi SC’s set-piece quality proved decisive, and their ability to slow the tempo in the final ten minutes showed game management that has sometimes been missing this season.

Standout Players

• Polisi SC captain and centre-back: Beyond his winning goal, he made several crucial interceptions and won every aerial duel in his own box. A leader’s performance.
• Polisi SC goalkeeper: Made two important saves at 1-1 and commanded his area expertly in the closing stages, including a stoppage-time punch under heavy pressure.
• Fufuni striker: Took his goal with composure and was a constant nuisance on the shoulder of the last defender. His movement created space for others, even if the service dried up late on.
• Fufuni central midfielder: Covered immense ground and was the architect of the equaliser with a perfectly weighted through ball. He kept his side ticking even when they were under the cosh.

Season Impact

For Polisi SC, this result is a timely boost. It extends their unbeaten run on home soil and strengthens their claim for a respectable league position. The three points also narrow the gap to the teams above them, keeping the possibility of a late surge alive. For Fufuni, the defeat is a frustrating one — they showed enough quality to take something from the game but were undone by a set-piece and a lack of cutting edge in the final minutes.

The Zanzibar Premier League table remains tight, and both sides will know that con
