ZESCO United Ndola Thrash Mutondo Stars 5-0 in Zambia Super League

ZESCO United Ndola delivered one of the most emphatic results of the Zambia Super League round, defeating Mutondo Stars 5-0 at home. The five-goal victory was built on relentless pressing, sharp movement in the final third and a ruthless second-half display that turned a strong start into a statement win.

Match overview

ZESCO United Ndola set the tone from the opening minutes, pressing Mutondo Stars high and forcing mistakes in the away side’s build-up. The early pressure produced a breakthrough, and the home team doubled its lead before half-time to take firm control. Mutondo Stars tried to regroup after the interval, but ZESCO’s speed of transition and numerical advantage in midfield made it difficult for the visitors to contain the hosts.

The second half became a procession at times. ZESCO added three more goals, mixing patient possession with direct runs behind the defence. Mutondo Stars, who had brief moments on the counter, could not find a response, and the home side’s goalkeeper was rarely tested. By the final whistle, the scoreline reflected ZESCO’s dominance across nearly every phase of the game.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: ZESCO’s high press forced an error and the opening goal arrived inside the first quarter of the match.
• Two-goal cushion: A well-timed run and composed finish gave the hosts a comfortable half-time lead.
• Quick third after the restart: ZESCO struck early in the second half to remove any doubt about the result.
• Late flourish: Two further goals completed a five-star performance and boosted the team’s goal difference.

Tactical story

ZESCO United Ndola’s midfield dominated the middle third, winning second balls and launching attacks quickly. The wide players stretched Mutondo Stars’ back line, creating space for central runners. Mutondo Stars defended too deep for long periods and struggled to maintain possession when they cleared the ball, which allowed ZESCO to sustain pressure. The home side’s decision to keep attacking rather than protect the lead was rewarded with a convincing margin.

Standout performers and table impact

ZESCO’s attacking unit shared the responsibility, with the forwards combining well and the midfielders arriving late in the box. The captain’s control in the centre was central to the team’s rhythm, while the defence remained alert to the few counter-attacks Mutondo Stars attempted. The result is a major boost to ZESCO United Ndola’s Zambia Super League standings and title ambitions, strengthening both points and goal difference. Mutondo Stars will need a quick response in their next fixture after a difficult evening in Ndola.
