ZESCO United Ndola and Mufulira Wanderers played out a 0-0 draw in the Zambia Super League on Sunday, 18 October 2026, in a match that delivered tension and tactical discipline but no goals. ZESCO United Ndola controlled long spells of possession at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, while Mufulira Wanderers defended in a compact block and threatened through quick counterattacks. The point keeps both sides involved in the league’s tightly packed standings.

Match overview

ZESCO United Ndola began the match with patient build-up play, looking to draw Mufulira Wanderers out of their defensive shape. The home side circulated the ball through midfield and delivered several crosses into the box, but the visitors’ centre-backs remained well organised and limited clear sights of goal.

Mufulira Wanderers grew in confidence as the first half wore on. Their best moments came from transitions, with midfield runners breaking forward whenever ZESCO lost possession in advanced areas. The second half followed a similar pattern: ZESCO pushed more players forward, while Wanderers sat deeper and looked for a decisive counterattack.

Key moments

• ZESCO United Ndola forced a series of first-half corners but could not convert sustained pressure into a goal.
• Mufulira Wanderers produced the clearest counterattacking chance of the match after a quick break through midfield.
• ZESCO’s goalkeeper made an important save to deny a low shot from the edge of the area.
• A late header from a set piece was cleared off the line as Wanderers held on for the clean sheet.

Tactical story

ZESCO’s game plan revolved around possession and width. The home side tried to stretch Mufulira Wanderers with switches of play, but their final ball was often met by a crowded penalty area. When ZESCO moved the ball slowly, Wanderers had time to reset and close the central spaces.

Mufulira Wanderers were disciplined without being passive. Their midfield screened the back four effectively and their forwards worked hard to press the first pass. That approach limited ZESCO’s clean entries into the box and made the visitors dangerous on the break. Neither side was willing to take excessive risks in the final minutes.

Standout performers

Both goalkeepers deserved credit for the clean sheets. ZESCO’s shot-stopper dealt well with crosses and produced a sharp second-half save, while Mufulira Wanderers’ goalkeeper commanded his area and calmly collected several dangerous deliveries. The two central defensive units also stood out, reading the game well and clearing their lines under pressure.

Season impact

For ZESCO United Ndola, the 0-0 draw is two points dropped in the title race, even if the performance showed control and patience. Mufulira Wanderers will view it as a valuable away point and another example of their defensive resilience. In a Zambia Super League campaign where fine margins shape the table, clean sheets and disciplined away displays can prove just as important as statement victories.
