Konkola Blades 2-0 Nkana FC — Konkola Blades secured an impressive 2-0 home win over Nkana FC in the Zambia Super League, combining first-half authority with a late counter-attacking finish at Konkola Stadium.

Match overview

Konkola Blades were sharp from the opening whistle, pressing Nkana’s deep-lying midfielders and forcing errors in dangerous areas. The home side took the lead through Isaac Ngoma’s header midway through the first half and controlled much of the contest from that point. Nkana saw plenty of the ball but struggled to create meaningful chances against a compact and aggressive Konkola defensive block.

The second goal arrived late in the match when Patrick Chileshe broke clear on the counter and finished with composure. It was a result built on organisation, work rate and clinical execution rather than sustained dominance, and it gave the Konkola supporters a satisfying home victory over one of Zambian football’s traditional powers.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Konkola won a corner and Ngoma rose highest at the near post to head the ball into the net.
• 32nd minute: Nkana’s best chance of the first half came from a free-kick, but the effort cleared the crossbar.
• 51st minute: Konkola goalkeeper Moses Sitali produced a strong one-handed save to deny Nkana an equaliser.
• 77th minute: Nkana pushed bodies forward, only to be caught by a quick Konkola break that ended with a shot deflected wide.
• 86th minute: Chileshe sealed the win, racing onto a through ball and finishing low past the goalkeeper.

Tactical story

Konkola Blades lined up with a disciplined 4-4-2 shape, keeping the two banks of four close together and denying Nkana space between the lines. Their pressing triggers were clear: whenever Nkana’s centre-backs took a heavy touch or played a sideways pass, Konkola’s forwards closed quickly. That approach forced long balls and allowed the home defence to defend in comfortable areas.

Nkana enjoyed more possession but lacked penetration. Their wide players were often isolated, and the final ball into the box was repeatedly cleared. Konkola’s second goal perfectly illustrated the contest: Nkana committed men forward, lost the ball in midfield and were punished by Chileshe’s direct running.

Standout players

Ngoma’s goal and physical presence made him a constant threat from set pieces, while Chileshe’s energy and finishing ability gave Konkola an outlet throughout. Sitali’s second-half save was another key contribution. For Nkana, midfielder Alex Mwamba tried to drive his team forward, but he was often surrounded by Konkola shirts in central areas.

Season impact

The victory strengthens Konkola Blades’ position in the Zambia Super League table and reinforces their reputation as a difficult team to beat at home. Nkana FC, meanwhile, are left with questions about their attacking fluency. The result will increase pressure on the visitors to find solutions quickly as the season progresses.
