Kabwe Warriors 1-2 Green Buffaloes — Green Buffaloes came from behind to beat Kabwe Warriors 2-1 in the Zambia Super League, with a second-half turnaround securing all three points at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium.

Match overview

Kabwe Warriors started brightly and took the lead through Chipo Mwansa’s well-taken finish in the 22nd minute. The home side used the energy of the crowd to press high and disrupt Green Buffaloes’ rhythm, but the visitors gradually settled and began to find space in midfield. Buffaloes equalised early in the second half and then scored the winner with just over ten minutes remaining.

The match was a reminder of Green Buffaloes’ resilience. Having absorbed pressure and survived a difficult opening period, they controlled the latter stages and punished Kabwe Warriors for dropping too deep in search of a draw. The result leaves the home side frustrated after a promising start.

Key moments

• 22nd minute: Mwansa gave Kabwe Warriors the lead, finishing neatly after a quick exchange on the edge of the box.
• 41st minute: Buffaloes’ first meaningful chance came from a header that was cleared off the line.
• 54th minute: Lameck Banda equalised for Green Buffaloes with a low drive from just inside the area.
• 68th minute: Kabwe Warriors goalkeeper Charles Mweemba made a fine save to keep the score level.
• 81st minute: Joseph Mwengwe scored the winner, converting a cross from the right with a first-time finish.

Tactical story

Kabwe Warriors began with an aggressive pressing approach, looking to force mistakes in Buffaloes’ build-up. It worked early on, with the home side winning possession in advanced areas and creating the opening goal. However, the intensity dropped after half-time, and Buffaloes began to dictate play through their midfield triangle.

Green Buffaloes’ manager made an important adjustment by pushing their wide players higher and stretching Kabwe Warriors’ back line. That change created space between the full-backs and centre-backs, which Buffaloes exploited for both goals. Kabwe Warriors, meanwhile, retreated deeper after the equaliser and struggled to retain the ball when they needed it most.

Standout players

Banda was central to Green Buffaloes’ comeback, driving forward from midfield and taking his goal confidently. Mwengwe’s movement in the box proved decisive for the winner. For Kabwe Warriors, Mwansa was the brightest attacking outlet and took his goal well, but the home side could not maintain their first-half intensity.

Season impact

Green Buffaloes move up the Zambia Super League standings with a valuable away win, while Kabwe Warriors are left to rue a missed opportunity to build on a positive start. The result highlights the importance of game management in tight matches and adds another layer of intrigue to the league’s mid-table battle.
