Johannesburg Uni B Women 3-0 Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies FC (W) — Johannesburg University's B side delivered a controlled, professional performance in the South Africa Women's League on Saturday, seeing off Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies with a three-goal victory built on early pressure and clinical finishing.

Early breakthrough sets the tone

The home side started with real intent, pressing high and forcing Mamelodi 11 Stars into hurried clearances from the first minute. That pressure told inside the opening quarter of an hour, and once the deadlock was broken, Johannesburg Uni B never looked like surrendering control of the contest.

Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies, who have shown flashes of attacking quality in recent weeks, struggled to establish any rhythm. Their midfield was overrun in the first half, and the forward line was left isolated for long spells. By the time the second goal arrived shortly after the interval, the shape of the result was clear.

Key moments

• 12' — Johannesburg Uni B take the lead after a sustained spell of pressure, finishing neatly from inside the box.
• 31' — A brilliant save from the Mamelodi goalkeeper keeps the deficit at one going into the break.
• 47' — Straight after half-time, a corner is converted at the near post to make it 2-0.
• 64' — Mamelodi's best chance of the match flashes wide after a quick break.
• 81' — The third goal arrives — a composed one-on-one finish that settles the contest beyond doubt.

Tactical story

Johannesburg Uni B lined up with a narrow midfield trio that dominated the centre of the pitch, switching play quickly and overloading the flanks. Their full-backs pushed high to create two-versus-one situations out wide, and the delivery into the box was consistently dangerous.

Mamelodi 11 Stars, defending in a low block, coped reasonably well with crosses in open play but were repeatedly undone by set pieces — a theme that has cost them points this season. When they did win the ball, their transitions were too slow to trouble a well-organised home defence.

Standout performers

The home side's attacking midfielder was the creative hub, linking midfield and attack with sharp, decisive passing. The centre-forward, meanwhile, was a constant physical presence, holding the ball up and bringing others into play — a performance that combined industry with end product.

For Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies, the goalkeeper deserved credit for a string of saves that kept the scoreline respectable, while the captain worked tirelessly in midfield despite limited service.

Season impact

The win strengthens Johannesburg Uni B Women's position in the South Africa Women's League standings and extends an encouraging run of form on home turf. For Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies FC (W), the defeat is a reminder of the gap that still separates the division's most consistent sides from those chasing them. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, where Mamelodi will be targeting an immediate response.
