Stellenbosch FC Women secured a valuable 1-0 away win over Diepkloof FC Women on 18 October 2026 in the South Africa Women’s League. A single second-half goal settled a closely contested match, with Stellenbosch’s patience and defensive discipline proving decisive.

Diepkloof made the stronger start and created the better chances in the first half, but they could not find a breakthrough. Stellenbosch grew into the game after the interval, scored from a well-worked attacking move and then defended their lead with maturity. The result highlights the fine margins in the league and the importance of taking chances when they arrive.

Match Overview

The home side pressed early, using width to stretch Stellenbosch’s defence and delivering several crosses into the box. Diepkloof’s midfield worked hard to win second balls, but their finishing lacked the accuracy needed to beat a well-positioned goalkeeper.

Stellenbosch absorbed the pressure and gradually found more space in midfield. The decisive goal came midway through the second half after a patient build-up. A clever pass opened the defence, and the striker finished calmly to give the visitors the lead. Diepkloof pushed for an equalizer, but Stellenbosch’s back line held firm.

Tactical Story

Diepkloof’s approach focused on wide attacks and early crosses. They found some joy down the flanks, but Stellenbosch’s centre-backs dealt with the aerial threat well. As the match progressed, the home side’s frustration grew, and their passing became more rushed in the final third.

Stellenbosch, meanwhile, stayed patient. Their midfield pressed at the right moments and looked to release the forwards into space. The winning goal was a perfect example of their game plan: win possession, move the ball quickly and attack the gap between the full-back and centre-back.

Standout Performers

Stellenbosch’s goalkeeper was instrumental, making key saves in both halves and commanding her area from set pieces. The goal scorer showed excellent movement and composure, while the midfield protected the back four well in the closing stages.

For Diepkloof, the performance had positives despite the result. Their midfield pressed energetically and their wide players caused problems, but the final ball was often missing. The team’s captain led by example and kept pushing until the final whistle.
