Shaab Ibb edged past Seiyun SC 1-0 in a tightly contested Yemen President Cup tie, booking their place in the next round thanks to a solitary second-half goal. The match, played at the Al-Ittihad Stadium in Ibb, was a tense, tactical affair that highlighted the growing competitiveness of Yemeni domestic football.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, both sides showed caution, aware that a single mistake could decide the knockout encounter. Shaab Ibb, playing in front of their passionate home supporters, enjoyed more possession but struggled to break down a resilient Seiyun SC defense. The first half ended goalless, with clear-cut chances at a premium.

The second half followed a similar pattern until the decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute. A quick exchange of passes on the edge of the box released Shaab Ibb's forward, who fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Seiyun SC pushed for an equalizer, but the home defense held firm to secure a valuable clean sheet.

Tactical Analysis

Shaab Ibb lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, looking to dominate midfield through quick passing and overloads on the wings. Seiyun SC adopted a 4-4-2 defensive block, sitting deep and looking to hit on the break. The tactical battle was intriguing: Shaab Ibb's full-backs pushed high to provide width, but Seiyun's compact midfield limited space in central areas.

The winning goal came from a moment of individual quality rather than a structural breakdown. Shaab Ibb's No. 10 found a pocket of space between Seiyun's midfield and defense, received a pass on the turn, and slipped the ball to the striker, who made no mistake. Seiyun's manager responded with attacking substitutions, but the equalizer never came.

Player Spotlight

Shaab Ibb's goalscorer was the difference-maker, his movement and finishing proving decisive. The captain and central defender also had an outstanding game, winning every aerial duel and making several crucial interceptions. For Seiyun SC, their goalkeeper kept them in the match with three important saves, while their left winger was a constant threat on the counter.

Cup Progression and Implications

The victory sends Shaab Ibb into the next round of the Yemen President Cup, where they will face either Al-Ahli Sana'a or Al-Saqr in a highly anticipated clash. For Seiyun SC, the defeat ends their cup hopes for another year, but their performance suggests they can challenge for promotion in the league. Shaab Ibb's fans will now dream of a deep cup run, and on this evidence, they have the defensive solidity to go far.
