The second half was end-to-end. Mochdre took the lead for the first time when their striker latched onto a through ball and rounded the goalkeeper. But Pwllheli refused to lie down, and their persistence paid off with a late equaliser that sent the tie into extra time.

Standout players

Pwllheli's goalkeeper was the hero of the shootout, saving Mochdre's third penalty and setting the platform for victory. Their captain controlled the midfield for long spells, while the striker who scored the late equaliser showed remarkable composure under pressure.

For Mochdre Movement, the centre-forward was a constant handful, scoring one and winning numerous aerial duels. The young winger who provided the assist for the second goal was electric on the break, but the home side will be frustrated by their inability to see out the game after taking the lead.

Tactical story

Mochdre Movement favoured a direct, high-tempo approach, looking to get the ball forward quickly and win second balls in the final third. That worked well for long periods, especially when their wingers isolated Pwllheli's full-backs. However, it also left them exposed to counter-attacks, which Pwllheli exploited for the opening goal.

Pwllheli were more patient, building through midfield and switching play to create overloads. Their late equaliser came from exactly that pattern: a wide overload, a deep cross, and a runner arriving at the back post. In extra time, both sides tired, and the game became a battle of set-pieces and long throws before penalties decided it.

What it means

Pwllheli move into the next round of the Welsh Cup with confidence and a reputation for resilience. Mochdre Movement exit with their heads held high after pushing a strong opponent to the limit. For both clubs, the experience of a high-stakes shootout will be remembered long after the final whistle.
