Llysfaen FC 0-2 Mochdre Movement: Away Side Book Welsh Cup Progress

Mochdre Movement produced a controlled away performance to beat Llysfaen FC 2-0 in their Welsh Cup tie on 17 October 2026. A goal in each half gave the visitors a deserved place in the next round, while Llysfaen were left to rue a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Played under the floodlights at 21:00, the cup tie had the intensity expected of a knockout match. Llysfaen started with energy and tried to press high, but Mochdre Movement gradually settled into the game and imposed their rhythm.

Match Overview

Mochdre Movement looked the more composed side in possession. Their midfield kept the ball moving quickly, drawing Llysfaen into challenges before switching play into wide areas. Llysfaen’s best moments came from direct runs and set pieces, but the home side struggled to test the goalkeeper with enough regularity.

The opening goal arrived in the 23rd minute when Tomos Hughes latched onto a loose ball just inside the penalty area and finished low into the corner. It was a sharp piece of anticipation from the forward, and it gave Mochdre the confidence to dictate the contest.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Tomos Hughes opens the scoring for Mochdre Movement after a quick turnover in midfield.
• 39th minute: Llysfaen’s Ellis Jones forces a save with a dipping effort from distance.
• 68th minute: Iwan Roberts doubles the lead, finishing calmly after a well-worked move down the right.
• 84th minute: Mochdre goalkeeper Dafydd Parry claims a dangerous cross to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Mochdre Movement’s shape without the ball was central to the result. They allowed Llysfaen possession in deeper areas but closed the central lanes effectively, forcing the home side into crosses that were comfortably defended. When Mochdre won the ball back, they transitioned quickly and found space between Llysfaen’s midfield and defence.

Llysfaen improved after the interval and pushed more bodies forward, but that ambition left gaps at the back. The second goal was a perfect example: Mochdre absorbed pressure, won the second ball, and attacked with purpose before Iwan Roberts supplied the finish.

Standout Players

Tomos Hughes was a constant threat for Mochdre, combining intelligent movement with a clinical opening goal. Iwan Roberts’ second-half strike capped a strong all-round display, while Dafydd Parry’s handling and command of his area gave the away side a solid foundation.

For Llysfaen, Ellis Jones showed willing with a few ambitious efforts, and the defence battled hard for long spells. However, the home side lacked the final pass needed to turn promising possession into clear chances.

What the Result Means

The 2-0 win sends Mochdre Movement into the next round of the Welsh Cup and extends their cup momentum. For Llysfaen FC, the defeat ends their run in the competition, but the performance offered enough encouragement for the league campaign ahead. In a knockout setting, Mochdre’s efficiency in both boxes proved the decisive difference.
