Yemen U17 2-0 Palestine U17 — WAFF U17 Championship

Yemen U17 produced one of their most assured performances of the West Asian Football Federation U17 Championship, defeating Palestine U17 by two goals to nil in a match they controlled from the opening exchanges. The victory strengthens Yemen's position in the tournament and delivers an important psychological blow in a regional rivalry that always carries extra weight.

Match Overview

Youth tournament football is often defined by energy, spacing and the speed at which young players recover their shape — and Yemen were superior in all three departments. From the first whistle they pressed with discipline, denying Palestine's midfielders time on the ball and forcing long, hopeful passes that Yemen's defenders read comfortably.

The opening goal settled any early nerves. Once ahead, Yemen managed the game intelligently, dropping their defensive line slightly deeper, inviting pressure and then springing forward on the counter. It is a mature approach for a squad at this level, and it made the second goal feel almost inevitable.

Key Moments

• First goal: Yemen's pressing paid off as they won possession in an advanced area and converted the chance to take a 1-0 lead.
• Chance to double the lead: A well-timed counter-attack created a clear opening that Palestine's goalkeeper did well to keep out.
• Second goal: Yemen struck again to put genuine daylight between the teams and effectively settle the contest.
• Clean sheet secured: Palestine pushed forward late in search of a lifeline, but Yemen's back line and goalkeeper held firm to preserve the shutout.

Tactical Story

Yemen's shape without the ball was the foundation of the win. Their midfield trio collapsed the central lanes, forcing Palestine to attack down the flanks, where the crosses were comfortably dealt with by a well-organised defensive unit. When possession was regained, Yemen moved the ball forward quickly — direct, vertical and uncomplicated.

Palestine struggled to find rhythm. Their best moments came when individual players beat their marker one-on-one, but too often those moments ended with a shot from distance or a cross into a crowded box. Against a compact opponent, that is a difficult way to generate clear chances.

Standout Performers

Yemen's goalscorers will take the headlines, but the standout contribution came from the midfield, which dictated the tempo of the game and won the majority of second balls. The centre-back pairing also deserves recognition for a composed, error-free display. For Palestine, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with several strong saves, and the team's wide players showed flashes of genuine quality that they will hope to build on in their remaining fixtures.

What the Result Means

Two goals and a clean sheet is the complete away-day performance in youth tournament football, and Yemen U17 will take real confidence from it. In the WAFF U17 format, where group tables can be decided by goal difference and head-to-head records, a controlled win of this nature is worth more than just three points. Palestine, meanwhile, will review a game in which they were second-best in the duels that mattered most, and will need a sharper attacking edge in their next outing to keep their campaign on track.
