CLB Thanh Hoa secured a 2-1 away victory over XM Hai Phong FC in the Vietnam National Champion League, delivering a composed and clinical performance at Lach Tray Stadium. The visitors made the most of their chances, while Hai Phong were left to rue a string of missed opportunities in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

The 19:00 kick-off produced an entertaining, competitive fixture between two clubs with a strong recent rivalry. Hai Phong started with energy and looked to press high, but Thanh Hoa's defensive structure held firm and their counter-attacking threat grew with every passing minute. The visitors took their chances ruthlessly, scoring twice before Hai Phong halved the deficit to set up a tense finish.

In the end, Thanh Hoa's game management in the closing stages proved decisive, as they slowed the tempo and protected their lead with professionalism.

Key Moments

• First goal: Thanh Hoa opened the scoring with a sharp finish following a quick transition from defence to attack.
• Double blow: Early in the second half, Thanh Hoa doubled their advantage from a set-piece, leaving the home crowd stunned.
• Hai Phong response: The hosts pulled one back with a well-taken goal, injecting new life into the contest.
• Late pressure: Hai Phong threw bodies forward in the final fifteen minutes, sending crosses into the box in search of an equaliser.
• Final whistle: Thanh Hoa's defence held firm, clearing a series of dangerous deliveries to seal all three points.

Tactical Story

Hai Phong's plan was built on aggressive pressing and quick circulation in the final third, aiming to overwhelm Thanh Hoa early. The visitors, however, sat in a disciplined mid-block, inviting pressure and then attacking the space behind the home full-backs with direct running.

That approach paid dividends twice. Thanh Hoa's ability to defend set-pieces and crosses in the second half was equally important, and their midfield screening prevented Hai Phong from finding rhythm around the edge of the box. The home side enjoyed more possession and more shots, but the quality of Thanh Hoa's finishing made the difference.

Standout Performers

Thanh Hoa's forward line was sharp and clinical throughout, while their goalkeeper handled the aerial bombardment impressively in the final stages. For Hai Phong, the attacking midfielder worked tirelessly to create openings, and the goalscorer's movement offered a constant threat, but the team as a whole lacked composure in the decisive moments.

Season Impact

Three away points of this kind can be hugely significant over the course of a V.League season. Thanh Hoa climb with momentum and reinforce their reputation as one of the league's most difficult teams to beat on the road. Hai Phong, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a performance that had plenty of merit but not enough end product — a recurring theme they will be eager to fix before their next fixture.

What's Next

Hai Phong face a quick opportunity to respond, and their home support will expect a reaction. Thanh Hoa will carry this result into their next outing with confidence, aware that consistency in away matches is often what separates title challengers from the rest of the pack.
