The Cong-Viettel and Bac Ninh played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Vietnam National Champion League on Friday, 23 October 2026, with both sides trading goals and momentum across a compelling 90 minutes at Hang Day Stadium. The 20:15 kick-off produced four goals, several pivotal saves and a finish that left both camps with a point but a sense of what might have been.

Match overview

The Cong-Viettel began with the authority expected of a home side, pushing their full-backs high and looking to pin Bac Ninh deep in their own half. That early pressure was rewarded when the hosts opened the scoring, finishing off a sustained spell of possession with a close-range effort that gave the visiting goalkeeper little chance.

Bac Ninh responded well rather than folding. The visitors grew into the contest by tightening the space between midfield and defence, and they equalised before half-time with a quick transition that caught The Cong-Viettel’s back line pushing too far up the pitch. The goal changed the mood of the match and ensured the teams went into the interval level.

The second half followed a similar pattern. The Cong-Viettel restored their lead after the restart, exploiting a set-piece situation to regain control, but Bac Ninh refused to go away. The visitors stayed compact, kept probing on the counter and found a late equaliser that silenced the home crowd and capped a resilient away performance.

Key moments

• 13th minute: The Cong-Viettel take the lead after a patient build-up ends with a close-range finish.
• 34th minute: Bac Ninh equalise with a fast break, punishing the hosts for committing too many players forward.
• 57th minute: The Cong-Viettel regain the advantage from a well-worked set piece.
• 84th minute: Bac Ninh level again, finishing a counter-attack to secure a share of the points.

Tactical story

The Cong-Viettel controlled most of the ball and tried to stretch Bac Ninh through wide overloads, but their attacking ambition left gaps in transition. Bac Ninh’s mid-block was disciplined for long spells, and their willingness to break quickly turned the match into a genuine contest rather than a one-sided home display.

What stood out was the contrast in approach: The Cong-Viettel wanted to dominate territory and create sustained pressure, while Bac Ninh were content to absorb, defend the box and strike when space opened. Both plans produced goals, and neither side managed to impose full control for the full 90 minutes.

Standout performers

The Cong-Viettel’s central midfielder was central to their best attacking moments, linking play and setting the tempo in possession. Their goalkeeper also made an important second-half save to prevent Bac Ninh from taking the lead during a dangerous spell. For Bac Ninh, the goalkeeper and centre-back pairing kept the visitors in the game under pressure, while the substitute who helped create the late equaliser made a decisive impact.

Season impact

The draw adds a point to both teams’ Vietnam National Champion League standings, but it will feel different in each dressing room. The Cong-Viettel will rue dropping points at home after twice leading, while Bac Ninh will take confidence from twice coming from behind away from home. With the table remaining tight, every point and every head-to-head result could matter as the season progresses.
