Hoang Anh Gia Lai 0-2 Song Lam Nghe An — Song Lam Nghe An produced a disciplined away performance to beat Hoang Anh Gia Lai 2-0 in the Vietnam National Champion League at Pleiku Stadium on Friday, 23 October 2026. The visitors scored in each half and protected their advantage with a compact defensive structure, leaving HAGL with a home defeat and no goals to show for their best spells of possession.

Match overview

Hoang Anh Gia Lai began with intent in front of their home supporters, moving the ball quickly through midfield and looking to isolate their wide attackers against Song Lam Nghe An’s full-backs. The early pressure did not translate into clear chances, however, as the visitors defended their penalty area well and forced HAGL into crosses from less dangerous positions.

Song Lam Nghe An grew into the contest by slowing the tempo and attacking through quick transitions. Their opening goal arrived before half-time and changed the shape of the game, forcing HAGL to commit more players forward after the restart. That added urgency created space for the visitors, who doubled their lead in the second half and then managed the closing stages with maturity.

Key moments

• 12th minute: HAGL’s first meaningful attack ended with a low cross from the right, but Song Lam Nghe An’s goalkeeper gathered comfortably at the near post.
• 34th minute: The visitors took the lead after a swift counter-attack. A forward run pulled the HAGL defence out of shape, and the finish was placed beyond the goalkeeper.
• 52nd minute: HAGL created their best chance of the match from a set piece, but a header drifted just wide of the far post.
• 76th minute: Song Lam Nghe An sealed the result with a second goal, converting another transition moment after winning the ball in midfield.
• 88th minute: The visitors’ goalkeeper made a late save to preserve the clean sheet and deny HAGL a consolation goal.

Tactical story

Song Lam Nghe An set up with a compact mid-block and invited HAGL to play in front of them. Their midfield screen protected the central defenders, while the wide players worked hard to close down crossing angles. When they won possession, they looked to attack quickly rather than overcomplicate the build-up.

HAGL enjoyed more of the ball but struggled to break through the visitors’ defensive lines. Their best moments came from wide areas and set pieces, yet the final pass was often rushed. As the home side pushed higher after conceding, Song Lam Nghe An’s counter-attacking threat became more pronounced, and the second goal reflected that shift in the game’s rhythm.

Standout performers

Song Lam Nghe An’s goalkeeper was composed throughout and made two important saves, including the late stop that secured the clean sheet. The central defenders dealt well with HAGL’s crosses, while the midfield anchor repeatedly broke up play and started attacks. For HAGL, the right-sided attacker was their most persistent outlet, but the home side lacked a decisive finish in the final third.

What the result means

The three points give Song Lam Nghe An a valuable away win and another clean sheet, strengthening their momentum in the Vietnam National Champion League. For Hoang Anh Gia Lai, the defeat is a reminder that possession alone is not enough; they must turn territorial control into clearer chances. HAGL will need a sharper response in their next fixture, while Song Lam Nghe An can take confidence from a professional road performance.
