Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC claimed a convincing 2-0 away win over CLB Thanh Hoa in the Vietnam National Champion League on Saturday evening, with goals from Nguyen Van Toan and Rafaelson securing all three points. The result strengthens Nam Dinh’s title credentials and leaves Thanh Hoa searching for answers after a flat attacking display.

Match overview

Nam Dinh started the brighter of the two sides, moving the ball quickly through midfield and testing the Thanh Hoa defence with early crosses. The visitors’ pressure told in the 34th minute when Nguyen Van Toan found space on the right side of the box and fired a low shot across the goalkeeper. Thanh Hoa tried to respond before half-time, but their best efforts were from distance and rarely troubled Nguyen Manh in the Nam Dinh goal.

The second half brought more control from Nam Dinh. They managed the tempo well, drawing Thanh Hoa forward before hitting them on the break. The decisive second goal arrived on 62 minutes when Rafaelson converted from the penalty spot after a foul inside the area. From there, the visitors defended with maturity and limited Thanh Hoa to speculative attempts.

Key moments

• 34’ — Nguyen Van Toan opens the scoring with a low, angled finish.
• 41’ — Thanh Hoa’s best first-half chance is headed over from a corner.
• 55’ — Nguyen Manh makes a sharp save to deny a long-range strike.
• 62’ — Rafaelson doubles the lead from the penalty spot.
• 74’ — Thanh Hoa push numbers forward but are caught offside twice in quick succession.
• 88’ — Nam Dinh nearly add a third on the counter, but the final shot clips the post.

Tactical story

Nam Dinh set up with a balanced 4-2-3-1, using their wide players to stretch Thanh Hoa’s back line and creating space for Nguyen Van Toan to drift inside. Their midfield double pivot protected the defence well and allowed the full-backs to push forward selectively. Thanh Hoa, by contrast, struggled to find rhythm in possession and often resorted to long balls that were comfortably defended.

The visitors’ game management in the second half was excellent. After Rafaelson’s penalty, Nam Dinh dropped their defensive line slightly and invited Thanh Hoa forward, relying on quick transitions to create further chances. Thanh Hoa’s substitutions added energy but not enough quality in the final third, and the home crowd grew frustrated as the clock ran down.

Standout players

Nguyen Van Toan was a constant threat, combining sharp movement with composed finishing for the opening goal. Rafaelson’s physical presence and penalty conversion gave Nam Dinh a reliable focal point in attack. Nguyen Manh produced a crucial save at 1-0 and commanded his area well. For Thanh Hoa, the midfield worked hard but lacked the creativity needed to unlock a well-organised defence.

Table and season impact

The three points keep Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC firmly in the V.League 1 title race and extend their strong away form. For CLB Thanh Hoa, the defeat is a setback in their push for a top-half finish, and questions will be asked about their attacking output at home. Nam Dinh’s clean sheet will be particularly pleasing, as it came against a side capable of scoring goals in bunches.

With the season entering a decisive phase, Nam Dinh’s ability to win away from home without hitting top gear could prove invaluable. Thanh Hoa, meanwhile, must find a way to turn possession into meaningful chances in their next fixture.
