Academia Puerto Cabello B 0-1 Atletico El Vigia: Visitors Secure Narrow Venezuela Segunda Division Win

Atletico El Vigia claimed a valuable 1-0 away victory over Academia Puerto Cabello B in the Venezuela Segunda Division on Monday, October 19, 2026, thanks to a disciplined defensive display and a decisive second-half goal. The result gives the visitors three important points in their push up the table, while the home side are left to reflect on a match in which they enjoyed spells of possession but lacked a cutting edge.

Match overview

Academia Puerto Cabello B began with energy and looked to use the width of the pitch early, pushing their full-backs forward and trying to stretch the Atletico El Vigia back line. The young home side moved the ball quickly in midfield, but clear chances were hard to come by against an opponent content to defend in a compact block and strike on the counter.

Atletico El Vigia grew into the contest as the first half wore on. Their midfield pressed intelligently, forcing Puerto Cabello B into rushed passes, and the visitors looked the more dangerous side whenever they won the ball in transition. The breakthrough eventually arrived after the break, and it proved enough to settle a tight, tactical encounter.

Key moments

• 63rd minute: Luis Peñaloza scored the only goal of the game, arriving late in the box to convert a low cross after a quick Atletico El Vigia counterattack.
• 71st minute: Academia Puerto Cabello B responded with their best move of the match, but a header from a corner flashed just wide of the far post.
• 84th minute: Atletico El Vigia goalkeeper Jesús Rondón made a strong save at his near post to preserve the lead.
• 90+2 minutes: The hosts sent numbers forward in stoppage time, but El Vigia cleared the danger and held on for a hard-fought clean sheet.

Tactical story

The match was a clear contrast in styles. Academia Puerto Cabello B wanted to build patiently and use wide areas, while Atletico El Vigia were happy to concede possession in less dangerous zones and defend the central corridor. That approach limited the home side to mostly speculative efforts from distance and crosses that were well handled by the visiting defence.

El Vigia’s winning goal came from exactly the kind of moment they had been waiting for: a turnover in midfield, a direct run into space, and a composed finish inside the penalty area. Once ahead, the visitors dropped their lines slightly, protected the box, and asked Puerto Cabello B to find a way through a crowded defensive shape. The home side pushed late, but the final ball lacked the precision needed to equalise.

Standout performers

Luis Peñaloza was the match-winner for Atletico El Vigia, combining intelligent movement with a calm finish for the decisive goal. Goalkeeper Jesús Rondón also deserves credit for a composed display, making the key save late on and commanding his area well from crosses. For Academia Puerto Cabello B, midfielder Andrés Villarroel was a bright spark, linking play and driving forward with purpose, even if the final product was missing.

What the result means

The three points strengthen Atletico El Vigia’s position in the Venezuela Segunda Division standings and give them momentum heading into their next fixture. A clean sheet on the road is especially valuable in a division where away games are often tight and low-scoring. For Academia Puerto Cabello B, the defeat is a reminder of the fine margins at this level; the reserve side showed promise in possession but must become more ruthless in the final third if they are to turn encouraging performances into points.
