Neftchi Fergana delivered one of the most impressive away results of the Uzbekistan Super League season, beating Pakhtakor 3-1 at the Pakhtakor Central Stadium on 23 October 2026. The visitors combined compact defending with ruthless counter-attacking to hand Pakhtakor a damaging home defeat and strengthen their own push for a high finish in the table.

Match overview

Pakhtakor began the match as the more assertive side, controlling possession and pushing Neftchi Fergana deep into their own half. The hosts moved the ball quickly through midfield and looked to create overloads on the flanks, but Neftchi’s defensive block remained disciplined. The visitors conceded territory deliberately, keeping their shape and waiting for turnovers in central areas.

That approach paid off midway through the first half. Neftchi won the ball near the halfway line and broke forward with purpose, opening the scoring through Ibrohim Rahimov. Pakhtakor responded with sustained pressure and equalised through Jasur Yakubov, but the goal did not change the flow of the contest. Neftchi remained calm, continued to defend in numbers and regained the lead before half-time when Sardor Tursunov finished off a quick transition.

Key moments

• First-half opener: Neftchi Fergana’s compact midfield forced a turnover before Rahimov applied a composed finish to give the visitors the lead.
• Pakhtakor response: Jasur Yakubov levelled for the hosts after a period of sustained pressure, briefly raising the noise inside the stadium.
• Neftchi retake control: Sardor Tursunov restored the visitors’ advantage before the break, converting a move that exposed Pakhtakor’s stretched back line.
• Second-half cushion: Rahimov added his second of the night after another sharp counter, effectively putting the game beyond Pakhtakor.
• Late pressure: Pakhtakor pushed more players forward in the final 20 minutes, but Neftchi’s goalkeeper and centre-backs dealt with a series of crosses and set pieces.

Tactical story

The match was a clear contrast in styles. Pakhtakor wanted to dominate the ball, build through midfield and pin Neftchi back. Neftchi Fergana were content to sit in a mid-to-low block, deny space between the lines and strike quickly when possession changed hands. Their midfielders closed down second balls aggressively, while the front players made repeated runs into the channels.

Pakhtakor’s biggest problem was transition defence. With their full-backs advanced, they left large areas for Neftchi to attack. The visitors did not need many chances to score three goals, and their efficiency in front of goal was the decisive difference. Pakhtakor created enough territory and crosses to threaten more, but Neftchi’s penalty area defending was resolute and their goalkeeper handled the aerial pressure well.

Standout players

Ibrohim Rahimov was the headline performer for Neftchi Fergana, scoring twice and leading the counter-attack with intelligent movement. Sardor Tursunov also played a key role, adding a goal and linking play in the final third. In defence, Neftchi’s centre-back pairing deserves credit for surviving long spells without the ball and limiting Pakhtakor to few clear-cut chances.

For Pakhtakor, Jasur Yakubov was the most positive attacking outlet and took his goal well. However, the hosts lacked the final pass in the second half and were repeatedly exposed when they lost possession in advanced areas.

What the result means

The 3-1 win is a significant statement for Neftchi Fergana and gives them momentum in the race for the upper places in the Uzbekistan Super League. For Pakhtakor, the defeat is a setback in their title challenge and raises questions about their balance when committing numbers forward. The result also adds extra intrigue to the coming weeks, with the top of the table set to remain closely contested.
