FC OKMK Olmaliq secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Xorazm Urganch in their Uzbekistan Cup clash on Wednesday evening, advancing their cup ambitions with a performance that mixed attacking intent with a nervy finish. Played under the lights at the OKMK Stadium in Almalyk, the match delivered exactly what cup football so often promises: goals, momentum swings and a tense closing stretch.

Match Overview

• Competition: Uzbekistan Cup
• Fixture: FC OKMK Olmaliq vs Xorazm Urganch
• Final score: 2-1
• Kick-off: 21:30, 16 September 2026
• Result: Home win for OKMK Olmaliq

OKMK, the club from the industrial city of Almalyk, entered the tie as the more established side and quickly set about imposing their tempo. Their midfield pressed high, forcing Xorazm Urganch into rushed clearances and giving the home forwards repeated opportunities to attack the visitors' defensive line.

How the Match Unfolded

The opening exchanges were controlled by OKMK, who dominated possession and created the first meaningful chances of the night. Their patience paid off when they broke the deadlock, converting pressure into a goal that lifted the home crowd. Rather than sitting back, the hosts kept pushing and eventually doubled their advantage, putting themselves in a commanding position.

Xorazm Urganch, however, are never an easy side to shake off. The visitors reorganised after the interval, pushed their wingers higher and began to find space behind OKMK's full-backs. Their persistence produced a goal that set up a tense final phase, and for a spell it looked as though an equaliser might be on the cards.

OKMK responded the way a well-drilled cup side should: by slowing the game down, keeping the ball in wide areas and defending their penalty area with discipline. The closing minutes were scrappy, but the home side managed the clock well and saw out the win.

Key Moments

• OKMK's opening goal came at the end of a sustained spell of possession and pressing.
• A second goal gave the hosts breathing room and forced Xorazm to change their approach.
• Xorazm Urganch pulled one back to create a tense finish.
• OKMK's back line held firm through a nervy period of added time.

Tactical Story

OKMK lined up with a compact shape and looked to win the ball back quickly in midfield, turning defence into attack within a few passes. Their build-up play favoured the flanks, with overlapping runs stretching Xorazm's defensive block and creating crossing opportunities.

Xorazm Urganch's best football came after they abandoned their cautious start. Once they committed more bodies forward, they found joy down the channels and looked far more threatening. The problem was the space they left behind, and OKMK were able to exploit it during the periods when the game was at its most open.

Standout Performers

OKMK's attacking players carried the biggest threat, combining movement off the ball with quick one-twos on the edge of the area. In midfield, the hosts' engine room controlled the rhythm of the game for long stretches. For Xorazm, the goalscorer and the wide players who supplied him were the bright spots on an otherwise frustrating evening.

What It Means

Cup progress is what matters most, and OKMK Olmaliq will take confidence from scoring twice and holding on under pressure. For Xorazm Urganch, the defeat is a reminder of how punishing cup football can be: a slow start proved costly, even though their second-half response was genuinely encouraging.

The result keeps OKMK's Uzbekistan Cup campaign alive and adds another competitive home performance to their record, while Xorazm Urganch will now turn their attention back to domestic league commitments.
