Colorado Storm Women edged Utah United Women 2-1 on the road in a tightly contested USL W League fixture at Zions Bank Stadium. The result kept Colorado in the hunt for a playoff spot while Utah slipped further down the Mountain Division table.

First-Half Battle

Both teams started cautiously, with the midfield battle dominated by physical challenges. Utah took the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute when forward Madison Olsen cut inside and curled a shot past the Colorado goalkeeper. The home side held the advantage until the break.

Colorado Storm Rally

Colorado came out with renewed energy in the second half. They equalized in the 53rd minute when winger Sophia Alvarez drilled home from a tight angle after a defensive mix-up. The visitors’ pressure continued, and they grabbed the winner in the 71st minute. Midfielder Jordan Reed met a corner kick with a powerful header that nestled into the top corner, leaving the Utah keeper with no chance.

Late Utah Pressure Denied

Utah pushed forward in the final ten minutes, creating a couple of half-chances, but Colorado’s backline, led by center-back Rachel Kim, held firm. The Storm also hit the crossbar through a counter-attack in stoppage time but were content to see out the 2-1 victory.

Playoff Picture

The win lifted Colorado Storm (W) into fourth place in the Mountain Division standings, just one point behind the playoff line. Utah United (W) remained in sixth place and face an increasingly difficult battle to reach the postseason. Both teams are back in action next weekend as the regular season enters its final month.
