IBV Vestmannaeyjar Women earned a 2-0 home win over Stjarnan Gardabaer Women in the Iceland Besta-deild kvenna, combining an early breakthrough with a disciplined second-half performance at Hásteinsvöllur.

Match overview

ÍBV set the tone from the opening minutes, pressing Stjarnan high and forcing the visitors into hurried clearances. The home side’s reward arrived in the first half when a well-worked attacking move opened the scoring. A neat exchange on the edge of the box created space for a low finish, giving ÍBV a lead their early control deserved.

Stjarnan responded with more possession after the break, but ÍBV’s defensive structure held firm. The home side doubled their advantage in the second half through a composed finish after another quick transition, and from there they managed the game intelligently, limiting Stjarnan to efforts from distance.

Key moments

• Opening goal: ÍBV broke through with a sharp combination and a low finish inside the first half.
• Goalkeeping intervention: A strong save from the ÍBV goalkeeper preserved the lead before the interval.
• Second goal: A fast counter-attack ended with a calm finish to make it 2-0.
• Clean sheet secured: ÍBV defended their penalty area well during the closing stages as Stjarnan pushed forward.

Tactical story

ÍBV’s pressing was the foundation of the win. By closing down Stjarnan’s midfielders quickly, the home side prevented easy progression and forced turnovers in useful areas. When ÍBV won possession, they moved the ball forward with purpose, often targeting the channels rather than allowing Stjarnan’s defence to set.

Stjarnan enjoyed longer spells on the ball in the second half but struggled to create clear chances. ÍBV dropped into a compact block, protected the central areas, and relied on their goalkeeper to deal with crosses. The second goal was a perfect illustration of the home side’s game plan: absorb pressure, win the ball back, and attack quickly before the opposition could recover.

Standout performers

ÍBV’s goalkeeper was central to the clean sheet, making a key first-half save and commanding the box late on. The midfield unit worked tirelessly to close gaps and launch counters, while the forward line showed patience in front of goal. For Stjarnan, the central defenders battled well for long periods, but the team lacked the final pass needed to turn possession into genuine scoring opportunities.

What the result means

The victory gives ÍBV three important points in the Besta-deild kvenna and reinforces their home form. A 2-0 win with a clean sheet is especially valuable in a competitive league where goal difference can matter. Stjarnan will look to respond quickly, but this was a night when ÍBV’s pressing, organisation, and finishing proved decisive.
