Kharkiv appeared to be cruising after building a two-goal advantage early on, but Rivne refused to lie down and earned a point that felt like a victory by the final whistle.

The match had everything: fast starts, defensive errors, superb individual goals and a dramatic late twist. Kharkiv's high pressing and quick combinations caused problems from the opening minutes, while Rivne's resilience and set-piece threat kept them in contention. By the end, both benches were on their feet as a pulsating contest reached its climax.

Match overview: Kharkiv's fast start

FC Kharkiv U19 began with intent, pressing high and forcing Veres Rivne into mistakes in their own half. The home side's midfielders snapped into tackles and moved the ball forward quickly, and it took just eight minutes for the deadlock to be broken. A slick one-two on the edge of the box released the Kharkiv forward, who finished calmly into the bottom corner. The home crowd barely had time to settle before Kharkiv doubled their lead in the 21st minute, a driving run from midfield ending with a low shot that squirmed under the Rivne goalkeeper.

Rivne were rocked but not broken. They gradually stabilised, dropping their defensive line slightly and looking to use the pace of their wide players on the counter. In the 39th minute, the visitors pulled one back when a well-worked move down the right ended with a precise finish at the near post. That goal changed the mood, and Rivne finished the first half with renewed belief.

Tactical story: pressing, width and set-piece salvation

Kharkiv's approach was clear from the first whistle: press high, win the ball in dangerous areas and attack quickly through the half-spaces. Their first two goals came directly from this strategy, as Rivne struggled to play out from the back under pressure. Kharkiv's full-backs pushed high to support the wingers, creating overloads on the flanks, and their midfield trio dominated the central areas for long spells. At 3-1, it looked like a matter of how many they would score.

Rivne's response was impressive. The coaching staff switched to a back three and encouraged the wing-backs to push higher, giving the team more width in possession. That change allowed Rivne to stretch Kharkiv's pressing structure and find space behind the home side's advanced full-backs. The visitors also targeted set pieces, and it was from a corner that they found their dramatic late equaliser. Kharkiv, meanwhile, will rue their failure to manage the game after taking a two-goal lead, dropping deeper and inviting pressure as the second half wore on.

Standout players

Kharkiv's left winger was the game's most eye-catching attacker, scoring a brilliant third goal and causing constant problems with his direct running and delivery. The Kharkiv midfielder who scored the second was a driving force throughout, breaking lines and linking play with real authority. Up front, the opening scorer showed sharp movement and composure, though he faded as the game became more stretched.

For Rivne, the substitute striker changed the contest after coming on, scoring one goal and occupying the Kharkiv centre-backs with his physical presence. The captain in midfield was the visitors' calmest presence in possession, constantly recycling the ball and urging his team forward. The goalkeeper had a mixed night, at fault for the second goal but producing two important saves in the second half to keep Rivne within touching distance. The set-piece delivery for the late equaliser was also excellent, giving the header the chance to loop beyond the goa
