SC Poltava B edged past Oleksandriya B 1-0 in a hard-fought Ukrainian Second League encounter on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The match, played at the SC Poltava training complex, was decided by a solitary second-half strike that gave the home side all three points in a competitive reserve-team fixture.

Match Overview

The 16:45 kickoff brought together two sides eager to prove their depth in Ukraine's third tier. SC Poltava B started brightly, pressing high and forcing Oleksandriya B into early turnovers. However, the visitors' back line held firm, with their goalkeeper making a smart low save inside the first ten minutes. The first half was a tactical battle, with midfield spaces tightly contested and few clear-cut opportunities. Poltava B's best chance before the break came from a corner, but a header flashed just wide of the far post.

Key Moments

The breakthrough arrived in the 63rd minute. After a patient build-up down the right flank, Poltava B's winger delivered a low cross into the penalty area. The ball fell to Mykola Shevchenko, who took a touch before firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. It was a goal that rewarded the home side's persistence and sent the small crowd into celebration.

Oleksandriya B responded with urgency. They pushed more players forward and forced a series of corners, but Poltava B's defensive block remained organized. In the 78th minute, Oleksandriya B's striker broke through on goal, only for Poltava B's goalkeeper to produce a crucial one-on-one save. A late free-kick from the visitors skimmed the top of the crossbar, but the equalizer never came.

Tactical Story

SC Poltava B set up in a flexible 4-2-3-1, looking to win the ball high and attack quickly through the channels. Their midfield duo screened the back four effectively, limiting Oleksandriya B's central creativity. The visitors, by contrast, used a 4-3-3 and tried to build patiently from the back, but they struggled to break down a disciplined home defense. As the game wore on, Poltava B dropped deeper to protect their lead, inviting pressure but never losing their shape.

Standout Players

Mykola Shevchenko was the obvious match-winner with his clinical finish, but Poltava B's goalkeeper deserved equal credit for a string of important saves, including the decisive stop in the 78th minute. In defense, captain Oleh Bondarenko led by example, winning aerial duels and clearing danger. For Oleksandriya B, their left winger was a constant threat with his dribbling, while the central midfielder worked tirelessly to link play.

Season Impact and What’s Next

The 1-0 win lifts SC Poltava B up the Ukrainian Second League standings, giving them valuable momentum in what is always a demanding reserve-team campaign. For Oleksandriya B, the defeat is a frustrating one, but their performance showed enough promise to suggest they can bounce back quickly. Both sides will now prepare for their next fixtures, with Poltava B looking to build on a clean sheet and Oleksandriya B aiming to convert possession into goals.
