Karbon Cherkasy and Rebel Kyiv played out a 0-0 draw in the Ukrainian Second League on October 16, 2026. The match, played at the Central Stadium in Cherkasy, was a tense, closely fought encounter that highlighted the defensive strengths of both sides but left much to be desired in the attacking third.

Match Overview

The 18:30 kick-off saw Karbon Cherkasy, the home team, looking to build on a solid recent run. Rebel Kyiv, a young and energetic side from the capital, arrived with a reputation for quick counterattacks. The first half was a scrappy affair, with both teams struggling to string passes together on a bumpy pitch. A small but vocal crowd of around 800 witnessed a game that was high on effort but low on quality.

Key Moments

The first shot on target arrived in the 21st minute when Karbon's striker forced a routine save from the Rebel goalkeeper. Rebel's best chance came in the 34th minute when their winger cut inside and curled a shot just wide of the far post. In first-half stoppage time, Karbon won a free-kick in a dangerous position, but the effort went straight into the wall.

The second half was more of the same. Karbon pushed forward in search of a winner, but Rebel's defence held firm. The visitors nearly caught them on the break in the 68th minute, only for their striker to drag his shot wide when clean through. Karbon's best opportunity came in the 82nd minute when a header from a corner was cleared off the line. Despite six minutes of stoppage time, neither side could find the breakthrough.

Tactical Story

Karbon Cherkasy set up in a 4-2-3-1, looking to dominate possession and create chances through their attacking midfielder. Rebel Kyiv deployed a 4-4-2 with a deep defensive line, looking to hit on the counter. The game became a battle of attrition in midfield, with neither side able to assert control. Karbon finished with 14 shots to Rebel's 7, but only two were on target, summing up a frustrating evening for the hosts.

Standout Players

• Karbon Cherkasy goalkeeper: Made two smart saves, including a crucial stop in the second half, to preserve his clean sheet.
• Rebel Kyiv centre-back: A dominant display, winning 10 aerial duels and making 6 clearances to keep Karbon at bay.
• Karbon Cherkasy winger: The hosts' most dangerous outlet, completing 6 dribbles and delivering several dangerous crosses.

League Table Impact

The draw leaves Karbon Cherkasy in sixth place with 24 points from 18 matches, still within reach of the promotion play-off places. Rebel Kyiv sit ninth on 19 points, five points clear of the relegation zone. Both teams will view this as a point gained in a competitive league, but the lack of goals will be a concern for the coaches as they look to climb the table.
