Lithuania U17 Women 1-1 Estonia Women U17 — A late equaliser from Estonia Women U17 denied Lithuania U17 Women all three points in a hard-fought UEFA European U17 Women's Championship qualifying match on 13 October 2026. The 1-1 draw in Kaunas keeps both sides in the hunt for progression, but leaves them ruing missed chances in a game that swung back and forth after the break.

Match Overview

Lithuania started the brighter of the two teams, pressing high and forcing Estonia into a series of early turnovers. The home side's midfield trio worked tirelessly to win the ball back in advanced areas, and their reward came midway through the first half when a cleverly worked move down the right ended with a composed finish. Estonia, who had struggled to keep possession in the opening 20 minutes, gradually grew into the contest and began to find joy on the counter-attack.

After the interval, the visitors pushed more players forward, switching to a higher defensive line and committing their full-backs to the attack. That bravery paid off with a deserved equaliser in the second half, and from there the game became an end-to-end affair. Both goalkeepers were called into action in the final 15 minutes, but neither side could find a winner.

Key Moments

• 23' — Lithuania take the lead: A quick exchange on the edge of the box released the striker, who slotted calmly past the advancing goalkeeper.
• 45+1' — Estonia's best chance of the half: A curling effort from distance forced a full-stretch save from the Lithuania goalkeeper.
• 67' — Estonia equalise: After a sustained spell of pressure, a low cross from the left was turned in at the near post to make it 1-1.
• 78' — Lithuania nearly regain the lead: A header from a corner flashed just wide of the far post.
• 90+3' — Late drama: Estonia's goalkeeper produced a crucial stop to deny a close-range shot, preserving the draw.

Tactical Story

Lithuania set up in a 4-3-3 and looked to press Estonia's centre-backs aggressively. That approach worked well in the first half-hour, but it also left space in behind for Estonia to exploit. The visitors adjusted after the break, moving their most creative midfielder into a deeper role to help build play and bypass the initial press. Estonia's equaliser came from exactly that pattern: a patient build-up that drew Lithuania forward before a quick switch of play opened up the defence.

Lithuania's response was to bring on fresh legs in wide areas, and they finished the game strongly. However, a combination of wayward finishing and some resilient defending from Estonia's back four meant the scoreline remained level.

Standout Players

Lithuania U17 Women: The goalkeeper was excellent, making three important saves, while the central midfielders controlled the tempo for long spells. The opening goalscorer was a constant threat with her movement in behind.

Estonia Women U17: The equaliser came from a player who grew in influence as the game wore on. The captain led by example in midfield, breaking up play and starting counter-attacks, while the left-back was a tireless runner throughout.

Group Standings and What's Next

The draw leaves both teams with a point from their opening fixture in this qualifying round. With further matches to come, the group remains wide open. Lithuania will feel they should have taken maximum points after dominating the first half, while Estonia will take confidence from their second-half comeback. Both sides will now prepare for their next fixtures, knowing that goals and goal difference could prove decisive in the race to reach the next stage of the UEFA European U17 Women's Championship.
