Latvia U17 Women produced an attacking masterclass in a 4-2 victory over Estonia Women U17 in the UEFA European U17 Women's Championship on Saturday, 10 October 2026. In a match full of pace, transitions, and clinical finishing, Latvia’s ability to create and convert chances proved decisive.

The game was a stark contrast to a cautious qualifier, with both teams committed to attacking football. Latvia U17 Women struck early and often, while Estonia Women U17 refused to fold and kept themselves within touching distance for much of the contest. Ultimately, Latvia’s extra quality in the final third made the difference.

Match Overview

Latvia began brightly, pressing high and forcing Estonia into mistakes in their own half. The opener came after a quick turnover, and the lead was doubled soon after with a well-taken finish from the edge of the area. Estonia responded well, pulling one goal back through a determined run and finish, but Latvia restored their two-goal cushion before half-time.

After the break, Estonia again showed spirit and scored a second goal to briefly raise hopes of a comeback. Latvia, however, managed the game well and sealed the win with a fourth goal late on, ending any doubt about the result.

Key Moments

• Fast start: Latvia scored inside the opening 15 minutes, capitalising on a high press and a loose pass.
• Second goal: A flowing move down the right ended with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
• Estonia responds: A determined run and shot pulled one back, giving Estonia belief before half-time.
• Latvia restores control: A third goal just before the break swung momentum back in Latvia’s favour.
• Late clincher: After Estonia scored their second, Latvia added a fourth to secure the three points.

Tactical Story

Latvia’s 4-3-3 was built on quick ball circulation and aggressive pressing, which repeatedly forced Estonia into rushed clearances. Estonia Women U17 used a 4-2-3-1 and looked dangerous on the counter, especially when their wide players ran into space. The difference was Latvia’s efficiency: they created more clear chances and took them at crucial moments.

Standout Players

Latvia’s forward line was electric, with the No. 9 scoring twice and the No. 10 pulling the strings behind her. The midfield also contributed defensively, winning back possession and launching attacks. Estonia’s standout performers were their hard-working central midfielder and their goalkeeper, who made several saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming more one-sided.

Campaign Impact

The win gives Latvia U17 Women a valuable three points and a confidence boost in a competitive UEFA European U17 Women's Championship group. Estonia Women U17 will be disappointed with the defeat but can take heart from their two goals and fighting spirit. Both teams will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, where goal difference and momentum could prove crucial.
