SCU Torreense edged Ararat-Armenia 3-2 in a pulsating UEFA Europa League league-phase encounter on Friday, 6 November 2026, with André Peixoto’s late strike settling a contest that swung one way and then the other.

At the Estádio Manuel Marques, Torreense twice surrendered the lead before finding a final answer in the closing stages. The Portuguese side’s victory gives them a valuable three points in the Europa League standings, while Ararat-Armenia leave empty-handed despite a spirited second-half comeback that briefly threatened to steal the match.

Match Overview

Torreense began with the intensity expected of a home side eager to impose themselves on the league phase. Their pressing forced Ararat-Armenia into early errors, and the breakthrough arrived inside the opening quarter-hour when Rúben Furtado latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and finished low beyond the goalkeeper.

Ararat-Armenia responded well. The Armenian side gradually found space in wide areas and equalised midway through the first half through Armen Hovhannisyan, whose well-timed run was rewarded with a composed finish. The goal silenced the home crowd briefly, but Torreense regained control before the interval and restored their advantage after the break when Tiago Manso converted from close range following a sustained spell of pressure.

Just as Torreense looked to be easing towards victory, Ararat-Armenia struck again. Erik Petrosyan’s equaliser in the 76th minute set up a tense finale, with both benches urging their teams forward. The decisive moment came two minutes from time, when Peixoto found space at the edge of the box and curled a precise effort into the far corner to send the home support into raptures.

Key Moments

• 12 minutes: Rúben Furtado opens the scoring for Torreense after a high turnover.
• 34 minutes: Armen Hovhannisyan levels for Ararat-Armenia with a cool finish.
• 58 minutes: Tiago Manso restores Torreense’s lead after a goalmouth scramble.
• 76 minutes: Erik Petrosyan equalises for Ararat-Armenia, setting up a dramatic finish.
• 88 minutes: André Peixoto scores the winner with a curling effort from outside the box.

Tactical Story

Torreense’s approach was built on aggressive pressing and quick transitions. Their midfield trio repeatedly closed down Ararat-Armenia’s deep-lying playmakers, forcing long balls that the home defence dealt with comfortably for long stretches. The hosts also targeted the flanks, stretching the Armenian back line and creating space for late runs into the box.

Ararat-Armenia, by contrast, grew into the game by exploiting the space behind Torreense’s advanced full-backs. Their two goals came from precisely that route: quick switches of play followed by sharp movement in the final third. However, the visitors’ willingness to commit numbers forward left them exposed in the closing minutes, and Peixoto punished them with the kind of moment that decides tight European ties.

Standout Players

Peixoto was the obvious hero for Torreense, not only for his winning goal but for his overall influence in the final third. Furtado’s energy and movement caused problems throughout, while Manso’s contribution in midfield and inside the box underlined his importance to the side’s attacking structure.

For Ararat-Armenia, Hovhannisyan and Petrosyan were the standout performers. Both took their goals calmly and remained a threat even as the game became stretched. The visitors’ goalkeeper also made several important saves, particularly in the first half, to keep the scoreline manageable.

What the Result Means

The win strengthens Torreense’s position in the UEFA Europa League standings and keeps their hopes of reaching the knockout phase firmly alive. For Ararat-Armenia, the defeat is a frustrating setback, especially after twice fighting back to level the score. Their performance showed plenty of character, but the margin between victory and defeat at this level was underlined by Peixoto’s late piece of quality.

Torreense will now turn their attention to their next European fixture with renewed confidence, while Ararat-Armenia must regroup quickly ahead of a demanding run of domestic and continental matches. On a night of five goals and shifting momentum, the home side’s resilience ultimately made the difference.
