Aktobe W 1-0 Ajax Amsterdam Women — Aktobe W produced one of the standout results of the UEFA Women’s Europa League night, beating Ajax Amsterdam Women 1-0 on 30 September 2026. A disciplined defensive display and a second-half goal gave the Kazakh side a memorable home victory over one of the competition’s more established names.

Match overview

The 22:00 kick-off promised a contrast in styles, and that is exactly what unfolded. Ajax Amsterdam Women dominated possession, moving the ball patiently in search of openings, while Aktobe W sat deep, defended in numbers, and looked to strike on the counter. Ajax had the lion’s share of territory but struggled to turn that control into clear-cut chances.

Aktobe’s goalkeeper was busy early, but the home side grew in confidence as the match wore on. The decisive moment arrived in the second half, when Aktobe broke forward with purpose and found the only goal of the game. From there, it became a test of concentration and resilience, and Aktobe passed it with impressive composure.

Key moments

• Early pressure: Ajax created two half-chances, but Aktobe goalkeeper Aigerim Tolegenova stood firm with a pair of important saves.
• 38th minute: Ajax came closest in the first half when a shot from the edge of the box clipped the outside of the post.
• 73rd minute: Aktobe scored the winner through Aruzhan Kenzhebayeva, who finished calmly on the counter after a quick break down the left.
• Late: Ajax piled forward in search of an equaliser, but Aktobe blocked shots, cleared crosses, and managed the final minutes expertly.

Tactical story

Aktobe W set up in a compact 5-4-1, with the wing-backs dropping deep to form a five-player defensive line. Their midfield stayed narrow, forcing Ajax to play around them rather than through the middle. Ajax used a 4-3-3 and pushed their full-backs high, aiming to create overloads on the flanks and deliver early crosses. But Aktobe’s centre-backs dealt with those deliveries well, and the goalkeeper commanded her area.

The game’s defining tactical battle was Ajax’s possession against Aktobe’s counter-attacking threat. Ajax circulated the ball but often lacked speed in the final third, allowing Aktobe to reset their defensive shape. When Aktobe won the ball, they attacked directly and with intent. The winning goal came from exactly that pattern: a turnover in midfield, a quick pass into space, and a composed finish. After taking the lead, Aktobe defended with discipline and intelligence, slowing the game down and taking the sting out of Ajax’s late surge.

Standout players

Aigerim Tolegenova was Aktobe’s hero in goal, making several saves and catching crosses under pressure. Aruzhan Kenzhebayeva’s match-winning goal was the obvious highlight, but her work rate in tracking back also helped the team. Aktobe’s captain led the defensive effort, organising the back line and winning crucial aerial duels. For Ajax, their midfielders saw plenty of the ball, but the Dutch side lacked a finishing touch on a frustrating evening.

What it means

For Aktobe W, this is a result that could define their UEFA Women’s Europa League campaign. Three points against a club with Ajax’s pedigree will boost confidence and improve their position in the standings. It also proves they can compete against technically strong opponents when their defensive plan is executed properly. Ajax Amsterdam Women, on the other hand, will be disappointed. They controlled large spells but were undone by a single moment and must now respond quickly in their next match to keep their qualification hopes on track.
