Competition: UEFA Europa Conference League
Date: 23 October 2026

Nordsjaelland were held to a 2-2 draw by CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Europa Conference League after surrendering a two-goal lead at Right to Dream Park. The Danish hosts looked in control for much of the first half, but CSKA Sofia fought back bravely and earned a point with a late equaliser.

Match overview

Nordsjaelland started brightly and took the lead in the 9th minute through a well-worked attacking move. Their young side pressed with energy and doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute, finishing off a quick transition after winning the ball in midfield. At that stage, the hosts appeared to be cruising towards a comfortable victory.

CSKA Sofia found a lifeline just before half-time, scoring in the 44th minute from a set piece to reduce the deficit. The Bulgarian side came out with renewed purpose after the break, pressing higher and forcing Nordsjaelland deeper. The equaliser arrived in the 86th minute when a substitute connected with a cross inside the box, completing a memorable comeback.

• 9th minute: Nordsjaelland take an early lead with a composed finish after a flowing attacking move.
• 32nd minute: The hosts double their advantage, converting a quick counter-attack.
• 44th minute: CSKA Sofia pull one back from a set piece, heading in at the near post.
• 86th minute: CSKA Sofia equalise as a substitute finishes a cross from the left.
• 90+3 minute: Nordsjaelland push for a winner, but a last-ditch block denies them.

Tactical story

Nordsjaelland’s possession-based approach worked well in the opening half-hour. Their midfield rotated smoothly, and the full-backs pushed high to create numerical advantages on the flanks. However, the Danish side became too comfortable after going 2-0 up and allowed CSKA Sofia to gain a foothold through set pieces and direct play.

CSKA Sofia adjusted their shape in the second half, introducing fresh legs in midfield and attacking more aggressively down the wings. Their willingness to cross early caused problems for Nordsjaelland’s centre-backs, and the late equaliser came from exactly that kind of delivery. Nordsjaelland’s substitutions did not have the same impact, and they were left to settle for a draw.

Standout performers

Nordsjaelland’s right winger was a constant threat in the first half, contributing to both goals with direct running and intelligent movement. CSKA Sofia’s substitute midfielder changed the game after coming on, adding energy and composure in possession. Both goalkeepers made important saves, particularly in the final 20 minutes when the match opened up.

What the draw means

The point leaves both sides with mixed emotions. Nordsjaelland will view it as two points dropped after leading 2-0, while CSKA Sofia will take confidence from their comeback. In the UEFA Europa Conference League standings, every point matters, and this draw keeps both teams within touching distance of the positions they are targeting in the league phase.
