FC Palm City secured an impressive 2-0 away victory over Al Bataeh in the United Arab Emirates President Cup, delivering a professional performance that combined defensive resilience with clinical finishing. The match, played on 23 September 2026, saw Palm City absorb early pressure before striking twice to knock out their hosts and advance in the competition.

Match Overview

Al Bataeh began the game with intent, pushing men forward and testing the Palm City goalkeeper with a couple of early crosses. However, the visitors’ back line stood firm, and as the first half wore on, Palm City began to find space in behind. The breakthrough came just before half-time when a quick counter-attack ended with a low shot into the corner. Al Bataeh were stunned, and their frustration grew as they struggled to create clear chances.

In the second half, Al Bataeh dominated possession but found themselves increasingly exposed at the back. Palm City doubled their lead on the break, with a swift move down the left ending in a composed finish. From there, the visitors managed the game expertly, slowing the tempo and denying Al Bataeh any route back into the contest. The clean sheet was the foundation of a well-earned cup victory.

Key Moments

• First goal (Palm City): A fast break caught Al Bataeh’s defence high up the pitch, and the forward finished calmly.
• Second goal (Palm City): A driving run and cut-back found a teammate, who swept the ball home from close range.
• Al Bataeh’s best chance: A powerful header from a corner was cleared off the line, summing up their frustrating evening.

Tactical Story

Al Bataeh lined up in a 4-2-3-1, looking to dominate through possession and overload the wings. However, their full-backs pushed too high, leaving gaps that Palm City exploited with rapid transitions. Palm City’s 4-4-2 mid-block was disciplined, with the front two working tirelessly to press the centre-backs and force errors. When they won the ball, they attacked directly, often using long diagonal passes to release their wide players. Defensively, Palm City’s centre-backs were commanding in the air, repelling cross after cross.

Standout Players

Palm City’s striker was the standout, scoring the opener and holding the ball up effectively to bring others into play. Their left winger was a constant outlet, providing the assist for the second goal. The goalkeeper made two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. For Al Bataeh, the central midfielder tried to dictate play but was often crowded out, while their goalkeeper prevented a heavier defeat with several stops.

Cup Implications

This victory sends FC Palm City into the next round of the UAE President Cup with confidence, highlighting their ability to perform away from home in knockout football. For Al Bataeh, the defeat ends their cup run and leaves them to focus on league commitments. Palm City’s efficient display will make them a side to watch in the draw, while Al Bataeh will reflect on missed opportunities and the importance of defensive balance.
