Kucukcekmece 1-1 Zonguldak: Late Penalty Denies Hosts All Three Points

Kucukcekmece and Zonguldak played out a 1-1 draw in the Turkish Third League on Saturday evening, 26 September 2026, with a late penalty rescuing a point for the visitors after the hosts had led for much of the second half.

The match was a tense, physical affair, decided by two moments in the final 35 minutes. Kucukcekmece broke the deadlock with a well-worked goal, but Zonguldak kept their nerve from the spot to claim a share of the points.

Match Overview

Kucukcekmece began with a high press, forcing Zonguldak into several early errors. The visitors weathered the storm and began to find space in behind, but the first half ended goalless, with both goalkeepers making routine saves and defences on top.

The deadlock was broken on 55 minutes when Mert Kaya finished off a flowing move. Kucukcekmece won the ball in midfield, played a quick one-two on the edge of the box, and Kaya slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. The hosts could have doubled their lead moments later, but a header from a corner hit the post.

Zonguldak pushed more players forward as the game wore on, and their persistence was rewarded on 82 minutes. A driving run into the box drew a foul, and Emrah Şen stepped up to convert the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Both teams had half-chances in the closing stages, but neither could find a winner.

Key Moments

• 55' – Mert Kaya gives Kucukcekmece the lead: A slick passing move cut through the Zonguldak defence.
• 62' – Kucukcekmece hit the post: A corner caused panic, but the header bounced away off the upright.
• 82' – Emrah Şen equalises from the penalty spot: The forward kept his composure to level the score.
• 90+2' – Late chance for Zonguldak: A volley from the edge of the box flew just wide as the visitors pushed for a winner.

Tactical Story

Kucukcekmece's high press worked well in the first half, but they dropped deeper after taking the lead, inviting pressure. Zonguldak switched to a more direct approach, playing longer balls into the channels and winning second balls. The penalty came from exactly that kind of pressure, with a defender unable to cope with a powerful run into the area.

Both managers made attacking substitutions in the final 15 minutes, turning the game into an end-to-end contest. In the end, a draw was probably the fairest result, though Kucukcekmece will rue the two points dropped after leading so late.

Standout Players

Mert Kaya was Kucukcekmece's most dangerous player, linking play and scoring the opening goal. Their goalkeeper made a crucial save in the first half to keep the score level. For Zonguldak, Emrah Şen was influential throughout, winning the penalty and converting it with confidence. The midfielder who drove into the box to earn the spot-kick also deserves credit for changing the momentum.

What the Draw Means

The point keeps both teams in the mid-table pack of the Turkish Third League, with Kucukcekmece still unbeaten at home but frustrated by their inability to close out games. Zonguldak will take confidence from a resilient away performance. Over the course of a long season, this could be remembered as a valuable point for the visitors and two costly dropped points for the hosts.
