Bitlis 1916 1-1 Yesilyurt Belediyespor: Spoils Shared in Turkish Third League Clash

Bitlis 1916 and Yesilyurt Belediyespor fought out a 1-1 draw in the Turkish Third League on Saturday evening, with both goals arriving in a tense second half at the Bitlis Atatürk Stadyumu. The hosts struck first through a powerful header, but Yesilyurt responded with a well-worked equaliser and held on for a point.

The result leaves both sides with mixed emotions. Bitlis 1916 will rue missed chances in the final 20 minutes, while Yesilyurt Belediyespor will be satisfied with a disciplined away performance that extended their unbeaten run in the league.

Match overview

The opening 45 minutes were cagey, with both teams prioritising defensive solidity. Bitlis 1916 tried to use the width of the pitch, delivering several crosses into the box, but Yesilyurt’s centre-backs dealt with the threat comfortably. The visitors looked dangerous on the counter and forced two good saves from the Bitlis goalkeeper before the break.

The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute when Bitlis 1916 won a corner and their captain powered a header into the roof of the net. The lead lasted only 13 minutes, though, as Yesilyurt equalised with a neat move down the left that ended with a composed finish inside the penalty area. Both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could find the decisive moment.

Key moments

• 54th minute – Bitlis 1916 take the lead: A corner from the right was met by a thumping header from the home captain, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
• 67th minute – Yesilyurt equalise: A quick exchange of passes on the left opened up the Bitlis defence, and the forward slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
• 78th minute – Bitlis denied by the post: A free-kick from 25 yards beat the wall but struck the outside of the post.
• 90th minute – Late save preserves the draw: Yesilyurt’s goalkeeper reacted sharply to keep out a close-range header in stoppage time.

Tactical story

Bitlis 1916 lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to dominate territory. Their full-backs pushed high, and the midfield tried to feed the lone striker quickly. However, they lacked a cutting edge in the first half and only truly threatened from set pieces. After taking the lead, they sat back slightly, which allowed Yesilyurt to gain a foothold.

Yesilyurt Belediyespor used a compact 4-4-2 and defended in a mid-block, closing the central areas and forcing Bitlis wide. Their equaliser was a textbook counter-attacking goal, with quick passes and intelligent movement. In the final stages, they defended deep and relied on their goalkeeper to secure the point.

Standout performers

Bitlis 1916’s captain was their best player, scoring the opener and winning several aerial duels. He also made a crucial clearance late on. The home No. 10 was lively between the lines but lacked support at times, often finding himself surrounded by Yesilyurt defenders.

For Yesilyurt, the goalscorer was the standout, showing composure to finish his chance and working tirelessly to press the Bitlis back line. The visiting goalkeeper also deserves praise for a late save that ensured the visitors left with a share of the points.

League impact

The draw keeps both teams in the middle section of the Turkish Third League table, where every point matters in the race for promotion and survival. Bitlis 1916 will be frustrated not to have converted their late pressure into a winner, while Yesilyurt Belediyespor will take confidence from another solid away result.

The league campaign is long, and both sides will know that consistency will be key. Bitlis must improve their finishing in tight games, while Yesilyurt can build on a performance that showed organisation, resilience and a useful cutting edge on the break.
