Başakşehir Beat Gaziantep 2-1 with Late Winner in Turkish Super League

Başakşehir Futbol Kulübü claimed a 2-1 victory over Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü in the Turkish Super League, sealing all three points with a late goal after their opponents had fought back to level the match. The win highlighted Başakşehir’s control for long periods, while Gaziantep’s resilience made the result feel earned rather than routine.

Match Overview

Başakşehir began with confidence and dictated the tempo early. The home side pressed high, forced turnovers, and used quick combinations to break through Gaziantep’s midfield. Their opener came after a sustained spell of pressure, with a well-timed run and finish giving them a deserved advantage.

Gaziantep responded by tightening their defensive shape and looking to threaten on the counter. They survived further pressure before the break and then found an equalizer in the second half through a set piece. That goal changed the mood of the match, but Başakşehir regathered control and found a winner in the final quarter of the game.

Key Moments

• Başakşehir took the lead after a high press forced a mistake, with the ball worked into the box for a composed finish.
• Gaziantep’s goalkeeper made two strong saves to keep his side within touching distance before half-time.
• Gaziantep equalized after the break from a corner, scoring with a powerful header.
• Başakşehir struck the post with a curling effort as they searched for a second goal.
• The winner arrived late in the second half when a substitute finished from close range after a low cross into the six-yard box.

Tactical Story

Başakşehir’s game plan revolved around controlling possession and pressing at the right moments. Their midfield trio kept the ball moving and made it difficult for Gaziantep to build rhythm. The home side’s full-backs provided width, allowing the wingers to drift inside and create numerical advantages around the penalty area.

Gaziantep defended in a compact block and tried to strike through direct attacks. Their equalizer came from a set piece, which had been one of their most promising routes all evening. However, as they pushed for a winning goal of their own, they left space in behind. Başakşehir exploited that space with a well-executed move down the flank and a finish from the substitute.

Standout Performers

Başakşehir’s midfield organizer was central to the win, setting the tempo and recovering possession repeatedly. The substitute who scored the winner made an immediate impact, adding energy and movement in the final third. At the back, the home side’s centre-backs dealt with Gaziantep’s aerial threat for most of the match, though they were beaten once from a corner.

Gaziantep’s goalkeeper kept the score level with several saves and gave his team a chance to take something from the match. The goalscorer from the set piece was a constant threat in the air, while the midfielders worked hard to limit Başakşehir’s space between the lines. In the end, the visitors could not hold on under late pressure.

Season Impact

The victory gives Başakşehir a valuable three points in the Turkish Super League and reinforces their ability to grind out results when performances are not entirely smooth. Winning after conceding an equalizer is a useful sign of character, especially in a league where home form can shape the race for European places.

Gaziantep will be frustrated to leave empty-handed after fighting back into the game. The performance offered encouragement, but the late concession underlines the importance of concentration in the closing stages. Both teams now turn to their next fixtures with clear lessons: Başakşehir must manage games better after taking the lead, while Gaziantep need to convert resilient spells into points.
