Etimesgut Belediye Spor Demolish Tokat Belediye Plevnespor 5-1 in Turkish Cup Thriller

Etimesgut Belediye Spor delivered one of the most ruthless away performances of the Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası) schedule on Wednesday evening, dismantling Tokat Belediye Plevnespor 5-1 in front of a stunned home crowd in Tokat. The Ankara-based visitors were clinical from the first whistle, turning a potentially awkward cup tie into a statement result that sends them marching into the next round with confidence and momentum.

The contest kicked off at 19:00 local time and, within the opening exchanges, it became clear that Etimesgut had no intention of playing cautiously. Their high press forced Tokat into hurried clearances, and the visitors' willingness to shoot from distance quickly turned territorial pressure into goals. By the time the half-time whistle blew, the tie already looked settled.

For Tokat Belediye Plevnespor, this was a sobering night. Cup football is supposed to offer lower-ranked sides a chance to punch above their weight, but the hosts simply could not cope with the speed and directness of Etimesgut's attacking play. The home supporters stayed until the final whistle, applauding the effort, but the gulf in finishing quality was impossible to ignore.

Key Moments That Decided the Tie

The opening goal arrived relatively early and set the tone for everything that followed. Etimesgut's midfield turned over possession in the middle third, moved the ball wide quickly, and finished with a low strike that left the Tokat goalkeeper with no realistic chance. From that moment, the home side's shape began to stretch, and the spaces in behind their back line became a recurring problem.

The second goal came from a set-piece routine, the kind of detail that separates well-coached cup sides from those still finding their rhythm. A cleverly worked delivery to the back post was met with a powerful header, doubling the lead and effectively removing any lingering doubt about the outcome.

Tokat did salvage something from the night. Their goal — the only real reward for a difficult evening — came from a determined attacking move down the right, finished with composure inside the penalty area. For a brief spell it appeared the hosts might claw their way back into the contest, but Etimesgut responded almost immediately with a third goal that snuffed out the revival before it could gather pace.

Two further goals in the closing stages completed the rout, with Etimesgut's substitutes adding fresh energy and punishing a tiring Tokat defence that had been chasing the ball for long stretches.

Tactical Story: Press, Width and Ruthless Transition

The tactical narrative of the match was straightforward. Etimesgut Belediye Spor lined up with a compact midfield block and looked to win the ball back high up the pitch, then attack vertically rather than patiently recycling possession. That approach worked perfectly against a Tokat side that wanted to build from the back but lacked the passing angles to escape pressure.

Tokat's biggest issue was the distance between their midfield line and their defence. Once Etimesgut broke the first line of pressure, they were effectively running at an exposed back four with numerical advantage. The visitors also exploited width intelligently, stretching Tokat from flank to flank before delivering into the box.

By contrast, the hosts found their most dangerous moments when they switched play quickly and got runners beyond the Etimesgut midfield. Their goal was a genuine reward for that pattern, but it was too isolated to change the trajectory of the game.

Standout Performers

Etimesgut's attacking unit shared the goals around, which is often the mark of a team capable of a deep cup run. The forward line combined sharp movement with composed finishing, while the midfield dictated the tempo of the match from the first minute to the last. Defensively, the visitors were rarely troubled, and the goalkeeper handled the few dangerous deliveries with authority.

For Tokat Belediye Plevnespor, the goalkeeper and central defenders deserve credit simply for enduring a long evening against relentless pressure, while the goalscorer will take confidence from a well-taken finish in a game that offered very few positives.
