Sakaryaspor 2-3 Bursa Yıldırımspor: Late Winner Sends Visitors Through in TUR Kupası

Bursa Yıldırımspor produced one of the standout results of the TUR Kupası round on 28 October 2026, defeating Sakaryaspor 3-2 at Sakarya Atatürk Stadium. In a cup tie that swung repeatedly, the visitors showed remarkable resilience, twice restoring their lead before sealing the win with a late goal that ended Sakaryaspor’s hopes of progressing.

Sakaryaspor entered the match as the more established side and enjoyed long spells of possession, but Bursa Yıldırımspor’s compact shape and sharp counter-attacking proved decisive. The home crowd expected a controlled cup performance; instead, they witnessed a tense, end-to-end contest in which the away team’s efficiency in the final third made the difference.

Match Overview

The game was played at a high tempo from the opening minutes. Sakaryaspor looked to dictate play through midfield, pushing their full-backs forward and attempting to pin Bursa Yıldırımspor deep. That approach created chances, but it also left space behind the defence, and the visitors were quick to exploit it.

Bursa Yıldırımspor were organised without the ball and dangerous when breaking forward. Their midfield stayed compact, their wide players tracked back diligently, and their striker offered a constant outlet. It was a classic cup performance: disciplined, direct, and clinical when the key moments arrived.

Key Moments

Bursa Yıldırımspor struck first, silencing the home support with a well-worked opening goal. Emre Kılıç found space in the penalty area and finished calmly to give the visitors an early advantage. Sakaryaspor responded with sustained pressure and eventually levelled through Okan Deniz, whose movement and finishing brought the home side back into the contest.

The visitors restored their lead after the break when Emre Kılıç struck again, capitalising on a quick transition and a defensive lapse. Sakaryaspor pushed forward in search of another equaliser and got it through Yusuf Altın, whose goal set up a tense final stretch. Just when the tie appeared to be heading toward extra time, Bursa Yıldırımspor found the decisive moment. Berat Aydın arrived in the box and converted the late winner that sent the away bench into celebration.

Tactical Story

Sakaryaspor’s plan was built on possession and territorial control, but their aggressive full-back positions left them exposed to counters. Bursa Yıldırımspor sat in a disciplined mid-block, invited pressure, and then attacked the spaces behind Sakaryaspor’s advanced defenders. The visitors also defended set pieces well and won the majority of second balls in midfield, which helped them sustain pressure during Sakaryaspor’s strongest spells.

The home side created enough chances to take something from the game, but their finishing and final pass let them down at crucial moments. Bursa Yıldırımspor, by contrast, were ruthless in the decisive areas. Their goalkeeper, Mert Yılmaz, also produced important saves to protect the lead at key stages.

Standout Players

Emre Kılıç was the attacking catalyst for Bursa Yıldırımspor, scoring twice and constantly troubling Sakaryaspor’s back line with his movement. Berat Aydın will be remembered for the winning goal, but his overall energy in midfield also helped the visitors press and counter effectively. Mert Yılmaz’s saves gave Bursa Yıldırımspor the platform to stay in the match.

For Sakaryaspor, Okan Deniz and Yusuf Altın carried much of the attacking burden. Both players responded to setbacks with goals, and their link-up play caused problems for the Bursa Yıldırımspor defence. Unfortunately for the home side, those individual contributions were not enough to prevent a disappointing cup exit.

What the Result Means

The victory is a significant confidence boost for Bursa Yıldırımspor and sends them into the next round of the TUR Kupası. Beating a higher-profile opponent away from home will strengthen belief within the squad and underline their ability to compete in knockout football. For Sakaryaspor, the defeat ends their cup campaign and leaves them to focus on league matters, but the manner of the loss will be difficult to accept after twice fighting back.

Cup ties are often decided by small details, and this one was no exception. Sakaryaspor had more of the ball, but Bursa Yıldırımspor had the sharper edge in front of goal and the composure to find a winner when the match seemed destined for extra time.
